Actually, software raid isn't that unreliable, Windows dynamic drives are pretty reliable. It's far from the best solution, usually a stop-gap until you can get a hardware RAID implemented, but still it works. Either way, like DR650SE said, why exchange a battery for a hard drive when you can just use a hard drive externally.

Its kinda like taking the engine out of your car and putting it in a trailer and having the trailer push you along just so you can have room to put your luggage where the engine use to be! ;)

nope in this case, as we stated in the previous page, my friend who owns a battery store is keen on customizing a smaller capacity battery to place in the hard drive space. now you can raid 2 hard drive with 2.5 form with the customize raid hardware all which is customized to fit inside the battery space. now, you dont have an external batt or external hard drive. though a shorter battery life, this would be ok if you always play or work on this laptop plugged on an outlet.

hmm my friend and i are also customizing a new battery that hold a longer battery life than that of the stock battery of the m11x.

in the philippines, its very hard to customize because there are not a lot of company who can customize a spec at your own modifications. now for US, there are a lot of company who customize. Now here's a US company who customize battery and charger in one: cell-con company also this company fesvpower

next year my family will be in US and by then i get to enjoy more customization stuff hehe

    Cpt.Zero,

You may want to familiarise yourself with the Forum Rules, specially the section on Signature size...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=109941

Your current sig with 2 large images is breaking the rules, best to fix this before a Mod gets involed...

As for your ideas, desktop mod is easy. You break something you can get a replacement part cheap. Notebooks are a different story, fry your motherboard and you might as well go buy a new system...

Hmm. A computer without a battery. Might as well lug a bloody PC tower around.

I'd like to see how you can fix a RAID device in a machine without RAID support, and how it'd be connected to the system.

An ultraportable laptop with a large external battery seems about as redundant as buying a massive 17" gaming system just to surf the web.

The whole point of the thing is to be portable. Having to lug around an external battery is not my idea of portability, I'd rather have a 17" machine with an internal battery.

If you want more inside the laptop, then just get a bigger laptop. Placing the battery outside the laptop just gives the illusion of extra features in a more portable laptop, when in fact a larger system would have the same (if not more) features and be as portable with an internal battery.
