@Bat Boy: Yep, a Review from NBR would be great. Reading Reviews is nice to spend some time while waiting for ther new toy.

So far for me the Review from chewietobbacca is the best up to now.

Actually the display is very good. This sums it up in my mind:

"The 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display is bright, sharp and has terrific horizontal viewing angles. The vertical viewing angle is a little narrower, but it's easy to find the sweet spot -- kudos to Alienware for using a good panel here instead of trying to lower the price with a substandard display."

No, it is not. It is just your subjective opinion.
Just watching the pics out there, one can see that it is totally a mirror.
I trust the objective figures measured by notebookcheck.
    It's even below 200 cd/m².
The measured contrast aren't too good either.
I don't live in the cellar with no sunlight....so no, this display is a totally no-go!

Its not his opinion, its from the Engadget review, and I think they would know what they are talking about.

I think it depends how and where do you use the M11. I am not going to use it outside. So I have no problem with that kind of Display. OK, if you need a Notebook for outdoor usage then you should think twice about it.

    Then it is their opinion.
As i said. I trust figures more to compare it with the figures of other displays.
And it is not even outdoors. In my flat here, there are many windows so it is really bright here.

Well, whatever. If you think this is a good display, then enjoy it.

See the thing is, you are saying it is a bad display. It may be bad for you, but in reality, this is a pretty good display especially for a system of this price and that is this loaded in hardware. Could they have done better? Sure, but is it the worse? By far it is not.

If he thinks the M11x display is bad, the Asus UL series would turn his eyes into a void ;)

The German review did not appear to slam the display, but comment that it was not as bright as they would like to compensate for outside in bright areas.

My guess is the actual German intent of the words is different than the English translation from Google. All professional reviews to date have been positive about the display and Engadget are usually very critical of displays. I am for sure- so when I EVER get mine, I will provide the definitive view ;)

It still boggles my mind that ultra portable laptops come with glossy displays.

Hopefully I can get a reasonable anit-glare filter for it.

Because using a screen filter from 3M would be too hard right? Ffs, I can't imagine shopping for a car or house with you.

I am from Germany. So understand it preview very well...
Provided with the stats there, i definitely say it is bad.
If it were to be the stats of a matt screen, then it would be ok.
But thanks to the glass infront of the the display, it is highly reflective (as one can see in the countless pics) which is getting disturbing, not only outdoors, but even in slightly brighter room.

And any professional review would content stats of the display and not some subjective impression! ;)
And if not, then it is not professional.
See, anyone can make a professional review then, by just providing you with game benchmarks and some own impression.

But i can see the hype of this device is having its effects.

Because turning your brain on is too hard right?

An antireflection-foil would further darken the display.
You can do this if you have a screen with average 250 cd/m² and high contrasts.
But i wouldn't do this with such a screen.

    http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Apple-MacBook-10-2009-Notebook.22265.0.html

Look, it is almost double the possible max. brightness, over 3 time the contrast.
With this i wouldn't care that it is glare because i would just put a foil on it.

It seems, that only few people here care about the display of a notebook which is a main part of it....but more caring for a CPU which is only overlocking to 1,6ghz and not more

Ahhh, Germany! Cologne and all of the pubs with great beer :)

SSJ is correct about the effect a screen filter would have, but I still think our German friends are being scientific and will provide a final say based on the total of the device in a final review. I can not say, since I do not have mine yet.

    Germany... good times :)

Not sure why I need to keep reminding you folks - if someone has an opinion and decides to share it, that is fine. It does not require a response which is insulting or attacking in nature. If you do not agree then that is fine also. Leave the petty insults out of your reply.

I will no longer be posting warnings like this. The forum rules are quite clear and everyone is expected to follow them if they want to use the NBR forums. Any further violations will result in infractions and/or banning.

3M filters (or any anti glare filters for that matter) definitely help a lot. I have one on my iPhone 3GS (mainly to serve as a screen protector, but it is a matte finish which diminishes glare) and my unibody macbook and they really cut down on glare without reducing brightness or color quality.

This laptop is being reviewed by several blogs and tech sites as a mobile gaming machine and productivity machine. Its purpose is to take notes in class or at a meeting, work on papers or work related docs in places like starbucks, and play most modern games with a solid FPS.

Similarly, all productivity tasks would be done in some sort of indoor space. This product does what it is designed to do very well, as indicated by several review sites.

I mean, is my watch terrible for gaming? Yes. Is that it's intended purpose? NO.

Exactly. I think people need to chill out with some of their expectations for the laptop. It's called the Alienware M11x not the Alienware UltraportableDoEverythingYourDesktopCanJesusBox.
