For those who own a M11x, maybe you can comment on the performance of the CPU in everyday tasks, other than gaming. Such as Web browsing, converting video files, watching HD Video online and offline, multitasking, Etc. Before i purchase this laptop, I want to make sure that the 1.3ghz SU7300 is enough for what i do. I mostly browse the web, usually with LOTS of tabs open, make music using Reason 4.0, and download songs and instrument clips, usually all at once. I also watch HD video online, and download torrents with Utorrent and convert audio and video files for my iPod Touch. Will the M11x and the 1.3Ghz CPU be able to handle these uses, perform fast and lag free without any slow down?

..O and yes I game also. Obviously. :)

ATM I am browsing through Google Chrome with 19 tabs open. I have watched HD content just fine and the cpu has not slow down any downloads if possible.

The onboard cpu is excellent for everyday tasks and there is nothing to worry about. It is only a bottleneck in the video game department.

When I first got this it was with plans of recording and gaming. I had no problems recording 8 tracks with 3 plug-ins in each track, along side a bus that held a mastering plug-in. This thing works freakin' good. (Oced to 1.6GHz here)

Cool. All this was done with it Overclocked, or just with the standard settings?

I've been running OC pretty much since I got it.

The way Alienware has the bios setup up atm is that when you OC the CPU, it for some reasons drops the voltage to it a bit. It drops it down enough to where it is actually below the voltage that the cpu uses at stock. So when not taking the Speedstepping into effect, it is using less power on OC mode then when the CPU is stock.

can someone explain exactly WHY dell setup the stock mode to be inferior in every way to the overclocked mode?

My guess is that its a bug.

This laptop can easily handle the heat it would put out at 1.73 ghz OC like everyone originally expected it to overclock. In stock mode, its at 6.5x stepping and in OC mode it is 6.0x. This is why when the ram clock is bumped, the cpu goes to 1.6 instead of 1.73.

Plus, it does not make sense that they would lower the voltage to the OC cpu compared to the stock cpu. One would only give enough voltage to the cpu in order to make it stable enough to run at whatever clock/stepping it is set to. Is Alienware suggesting the stock cpu is not as stable as the OC cpu? That of course is bs.

Expect at some point a bios update to address this issue as well as the non-working bios setting for disabling the power brick from charging the battery.

probably when people really start complaining about it or a crippling problem is found with the lappy.

I'm sure a BIOS update will be released eventually.
