i will be starting this Thread and hopefully would benefit all M11x users and Owners.
we have seen and experience the capability, performance and exclusive feeling of having to own and enjoy the alienware m11x. I can say we belong to an exclusive group of Users and owners having to have this power netbook with actually no competition in this class.
Now, with all the buzz and fuzz of having our very own m11x, some experience are great and we are happy and excited of our new found power netbook. however, as much as we need to improvise to enhance our m11x, put in an SSD to make it fast, upgrade a 1333mhz RAM, overclock our cpu, but in the end of the day, we awe with the performance of our m11x thereby making us wanting more.
i hope this thread would make dell and alienware see our wish, wants and needs in a faster way. This would help dell and alienware make aware of the need to out perform every product of their line up to better market and improve expecting buyer and future owners of wanting to own an Alienware M11x.
for rules:
1. please no Discussion just Suggestions and Recommendations
2. please dont hesitate to make suggestions that you see have suggested by other members. this would let us Dell determine how many owner and users and future buyers of M11x who want that upgrade or that feature on a new M11x R2.

Yeah, this thing was just released. lol
I don't see it getting any kind of refresh for a while. -
For a Start:
1. i need a much powerful CPU like the Intel C2D SL9600 Info Link 2.1ghz clock with only 17 thermal design power compare to 10 thermal design power of the SU7300.
2. also a overclockable RAM.
3. A 34mm Expresscard slot -
I think dell should at least offer core i3
-
And an ATI 5870 Videocard in it.
-
I see Dell doing something with this platform once the ULV arrandales are released.
Then I would actually give it some serious consideration as it is too late in the game to be buying ULV Core 2 stuff. -

I suggest you either:
A) buy this one if it suits you
B) wait longer than two months for a product cycle to refresh
Don't expect one until the early adopters buy it, along with some of the fence sitters. Once sales slow, then and only then, should you expect to hear anything about a possible refresh.
I've read your other posts, don't you have other things to worry about? =D -
-
please minimized discussion...
its ok you discussed after you have made your recommendations and suggestions -
-
Was going to send you a pm about it but at the time you didn't have 20 posts -
Thanks sleey0
suggestions:
1. a micro-FCPGA type processor so that we can replace easily the processor whenever we like to upgrade the cpu. -
Aren't most, if not all, ULV's soldered onto the mobo?
Here you go lol:

suggestion:
1. please locate the touchpad more to the right side than to where is located now which is the left side.
right handed people like me find the touchpad a little awkward to use because it is located at the leftside. unless i am using a mouse. -
We really need two of these threads going,
- Nitrogen cooling
- Ability to talk to aliens
- free -
Serious, small changes....
- Screen Improvements. If a large screen can be fitted into the same chassis, do so. There's a lot of bezel, and I'd like to see an edge to edge LED backlit screen. Resolution is good for an 11" though
- The big one, CPU power. The anemic Core 2 Duo ULV is not enough to support the GeForce 335. The Core i7-620 can fit into the Sony Z, it belongs here too, especially with the M11x's considerable thickness.
- GPU changes. The 335 is a great card, but I'm guessing there is a higher performing, better featured ATI card for around the same heat and power level, in the ATI 57xx series.
- Gigabit Ethernet. 10/100 is just such a strange corner to cut.
- Non-Plastic chassis. Make it out of aluminum and magnesium. -
suggestions:
1. external battery pack. -
however, people do need to note that alienware designed this notebook to be a laptop doubled with gaming features. they wanted the netbook size/battery life with the 15 inch power. more powerful CPU's may cut into the products battery life.
-
i-core and SLI 335M's.
-
I need 60+ hours of gaming battery life and a ULV quad core extreme CPU with an 11.6 RGB LED, 1600MHz RAM and dual HDD setup in RAID 0, with mobile 5 970 GPU's in crossfire. All in the M11x R2. I suggest they get to work. Now that would be an ultra portible I could really use. Oh, can't forget an unlocked BIOS.
-
I want to hear from a Dell rep why they chose the hardware they chose. I'm not trying to be naïve, but I'm pretty sure they took a lot of things into consideration when making this a sub-$1000 lappy. So, it ticks me off when I hear a chorus of "GIVE US i7!" and all I'm thinking is... power consumption.
Suggestion: 1280x720 resolution providing perfectly square pixels; ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870; keep the exterior matte; and, remove the application key and reaarange the buttons like so: (see below.)

DR650SE
waahhh what a list. but it is really possible if dell would not hold back
suggestion:
1. make an external battery
Actually i Have already made a thread for its Concept. here's the link: click this link -
A processor that can keep up with the 335M as well as an unlockable BIOS option to end all BSODs and enable others to OC to the limit.
-
Having read all the reviews, all i can see that the M11x needs is a touch more powerful processor to get the most from the M335 GPU. losing 15% battery life for this would be ok, a higher end Duo Core 2 wouldnt effect cost that much either.

Holographic display in 2160p
-
I think a travel charger should come standard with the machine

Mythbuster One Notebook Consultant
I don't know what this thread is good for! Alienware will not release a new generation within one year. So why discuss about the future? In one year there will be a new generation of Hardware on the market ... and all actual hardware is "snow from yesterday" ... so this discussion is 100% useless ...
I cannot understand why people complain about every new Notebook and why they are always looking for a "next generation" ... are they so bored? Nothing else to do? If you have a M11x: Use it! If not: Buy it or look for something else! -
-
A desktop Sandy Bridge CPU (8-cores x3.6GHz), mobile Fermi Xtreme with Optimus-||| tech. and a 6hrs battery life.
24" Holographic multi-touch Screen with Absolute Color tech. and a multi-touch-full-sized-holographic-keyboard. -
I want new drivers in the R2.
-
An ULV Arrandale chip, a matt finish screen with better black level response (bigger if possible to maximise the available space) and an express card slot. Also, the relevant mid-range GPU for the time (assuming the refresh happens in 6+ months time, the 335M might not be so hot for a new lappy by then).
Not a very demanding set of requirements really, but that really is all I'd hope to see. I'd expect NVidia Optimus as well, but I'm none too fussed if it makes an appearance or not really. -
That's the smartest way to buy, in my oppinion.

i7's have been found in a 12 inch thinkpad x201, i relly wish dell would go for this cpu for thier next m11x r2
i really wish they would make an expresscard 34mm slot in the m11x -
Even thought I don't own an M11x, I would conceder buying one if I seen the following.
An Intel i3 chipset.
RGB LED edge to edge glass display.
ATI GPU
I would love to see the M11x in green.
Dual Hard Drives ( <--- I doubt it. ) -
34mm card and a slimmer power supply to fit the mobility theme
more options overclocking/tweaking -
In order of preference:
1. A docking port because power users want optimal power at home too
2. A faster ULV processor in a socket instead of soldered in
2. A matte screen option
3. A 13.1" or similar size screen to use the full display area without growing the machine
4. The eSATA and USB 3.0 which have become commonplace on new machines
5. An Optimus enabled video driver with backwards compatibility
6. BIOS control of overclocking functions at refined increments
7. The Gigabit ethernet that Canada's site offers as a standard on all units
8. An external battery so we can keep going for longer
9. An expresscard slot
10. Extra memory card slots so we can insert multiple storage devices
11. The red case paint and a new option for an Alienware blue case
12. A charging mat so we don't have to plug in to charge the battery
I'm sure there are more things I can come up with, but that's my list for now. I think the greatest oversight BY FAR is the absence of a docking port. -
and re sell when the new one is out, that is smart although not budget friendly as it is always a loss
-
Core i7um
Brighter screen / Matte option
Sata 6Gbs SSD
USB 3.0
Unlocked OC BIOS
Nvidia Optimus or equivalent
quieter fan noise
better cooling for the memory (mine gets really warm under my left palm... I'd ditch the card readers for a small exahust fan over the memory) -
new colours for the chassis. blood red for me, please.
if alienware do release a processor update, i hope the chassis remains the same, so i could possibly have the option of just changing over the motherboard, should i feel the need to upgrade. i hope more companies follow a similar design model, where it's more like "want an upgrade? buy the component and do it yourself"
