Hey everyone so I was curious to know if Alienware incorporated an i3 processor into the refresh on the M11x, how much a performance increase would one expect to see while gaming? Bare in mind the i3 would be working in conjunction with the same GPU.

1.73 oc cpu vs 2.13 i3 base model (which is not low voltage). So 400mhz faster cpu plus a faster memory @1066 vs 800. Others have said maybe an I5 or I7. Have no idea myself. Still too soon for a refresh. Thanks! StevenX

    like a c2d 3.0ghz system with gts240 i guess.

    i3 mobile CPU's + chipset = ~40W. Current ULV C2D + chipset = ~20W. i3's + M11x = not a chance in hell.

Look at the ultra low voltage variants of the i5/i7 CPU's. Realistically, these are the only CPU's likely to feature in the M11xR2. They're not as fast as the i3's but they should offer a decent power increase over the SU7300 due to tech. like Turbo Boost, HT and increased levels of cache. Their lower overall power consumption should improve battery life over the current C2D setup also.

Judging by the spec, I doubt one would see any major difference between the i5 ULV and SU7300 OCed. The i7 ULV on the other hand might be a different story.

but it seems pretty unlikely that they would use a non-ULV processor for a refresh.

I could see them offering i5 and i7 as options. Wonder how much an i7 ULV would bump up the price. Anyone know the bulk pricing for those?

they're definitely not going to be sticking a standard voltage CPU inside the M11x, unless alienware starts equipping their lappies with watercooling systems.

    Im wondering this too!.

I think that the ULV-i7 would be a HUGE difference but the price would increase alot!. Instead of that I would pick the base m15x hands down...

I also think that the ULV-i5 would be like 20-25% faster than the OCed ULV-Core 2 duo. To be honest this is a good and nice speed increase but nothing to regret if you bought your core 2 duo m11x months ago.

Yeah I was looking at the TDP's of the i3 and they are all 34W. The i7-640UM runs on a 1.2GHZ with a Max Turbo frequency of 2.226 GHz in addition the TDP is 18w. Does anyone think this CPU would be a huge bottleneck when running CPU intensive games?
