Hi, I've been reading and noticing that the M11x have some quite a few defects and have came across a poster who said something about dead LEDs on their M11x ie on keyboard and "speaker" grills

So I've been googling images trying to figure out if my M11x is faulty or not

    http://img.whirltools.com/i/imag0011.jpg
    http://img.whirltools.com/i/imag0012.jpg

these are a few pictures taken from my M11x, notice how certain section of the space bar is dimmer then the rest of it

and further googleing shows that some other units have similar symtoms and some dont

ie (I applogise for stealing pictures and I am new/unsure of forum rules on pictures)

so lets have a call on who else have similar issues and how did you deal with it

What's the difference between " No im bothered by it" and " Yes it anoys me", and " No my M11x is perfectly fine" and " No its manufactured like that"? Also, how can a question beginning with how lead to a yes or no answer? Sorry, just a little confused.

Anyway, I had to pick three of the answers (1, 2, 6). My M11x has the pink/red hue on the left hand side of the keyboard when white is selected (due to LED limitations) and certain sections of the spacebar are dimmer than others (due to reduced amount of leds underneath spacebar). It doesn't bother me at all.

LOL. Aside for my space bar being short of some light and my ESC having a little bit of orange, the key board is great! Besides, who would get LED backlight like ours to use white light?!?!?!

Folks, lets go easy since this is his first post. OP, I'm editing your poll choices to make it easier to understand.

Be aware, as has been posted in numerous threads, this 'white' will never be a true #FFFFFF white since the LED's display multiple colors. Its just a limitation. Seen on the M15x and the M17x as well.

Forum rules for content not your own are simple, credit the original source. :)

Sorry mates, typos and missing words that i intended.

"No im NOT bothered by it "

What I ment be it being fine is if the whole space bar lights up fully and properly

Btw im not worried about the colour but if the LED is burned out or its manufactured like that

ie the lower left side of the space bar is a dull spot where as the lower right side is brightly lit

because if its faulty, i'd demand another unit but if its made like that then i'd accept it being what it is

Nah don't worry too much about it, of course you can always tell Dell that you would like a fully lit keyboard but I honestly think it's just hardware limitations on the LEDs.

For mine it's really hard to tell in the dark, it seems perfectly lit but in a fully lit room the space bar has missing spots.

I have same: ESC has orange hue while keyboard is set to white. I'm using sometimes white, especially while working - it is neutral. Beside of this my basic color is blue, so I don't care much about this orange ESC key.

Exactly, the reason why NBR's keyboard "looks" fully lit is due to the over exposure of the lights when the shot was taken in the dark. I'd put money on it that their keyboard is exactly the same as everyone elses.

Why do people always create polls that can only poll people with a problem. There is no option to indicate no problems... don't know why it bugs me so much lol

My left speaker grill is very very slightly brighter then my right. I just tweaked it a touch with AlienFX Lite and called it a date. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, and its only with red. Green, Blue, and mix colors dont have a problem.

The reason for the color bleeding a bit is that white is made up of red, green, and blue LEDs all being lit up at once. so towards the edges in some places where the blue/green lighting doesn't cover as well the red will be more prominent.

EDIT: I see that I misunderstood the wording of one of the options, sorry OP :)

@Everyone who thinks the keyboard is defectively lit. I circled the areas on misterb's pictures to show that it has the same areas that are "dimmer" than the rest. Misterb claims it to be a bad angle but the areas are too similar to mine. Under a dark setting, my keyboard is as bright as can be but there are the dim spots in the space bar. It's just the way the keyboard was made.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=6037494&postcount=1480

Again I'm not trying to disprove anyone, I just don't want this "problem" to run rampant because people think there are two kinds of keyboards out there.

Ok it's now 2.17 am and I just tried it again, since it's completely dark in my room now. I hoped for better pics that way. And still the pics don't do it justice in real life!

I don't mind your reasons, but if I'm saying my spacebar is fully backlit, it means it's fully backlit.

Yeah, some keys have dimmer parts. I just turn mine off, or rather black, lol. It looks cooler that way with it not having any light.

Initially i thought i was the only one with a dim spacebar so i had dell send me another keyboard.... took my m11x apart and put in the new keyboard and the problem persisted.... but atleast the new keyboard doesn't have the pink hue of the left CTRL button like my old keyboard did. The ESC does have an orange hue, the TAB is slightly pinkish and the spacebar remains dim. **All of these are obviously when the lighting is set to white**

The Alienware agents explanation: "every LED is shared with several keys. each key does not have their individual LED's. Hence, there will not be consistent lighting throughout the keyboard"

Sounded like a pretty good explanation to me. I just wished they had told me that b4 i took apart my precious m11x and exposed its insides to the nastiness the world has to offer :(
