 alright so im stuck in a pickle, I cant decide on which one Id be more satisfyed with, I have never been a fan of netbooks but the m11x catches my eye for some reason, probly the more obvious reasons, but id like to get other peoples opinons on this ; im not really concered about portability, i will be taking either 1 to school so thats not an issue, im not a week person. does anybody have a problem with screen size? also were can i find a picture that would have an m11x next to a m15x so i can compare

well if you dont mind portability, then i dont see why you shoudnt go for the M15x which is miles more powerful and will give you a much better gaming experience [given you are willing to shell out the extra bucks]

the m15x does not have very long battery life, 2 hours i think, but if its gonna be your main gaming rig the m15x would be better, as long as you go with the 260m. If you want to compromise performance for battery life and price, go with the m11x

that is the m17x so imagine the m15 somewhere in the middle

It's an ultraportable. Geez, has the industry already forgotten about this category? It's sad, I've always loved ultraportables, but every laptop these days is either a full fledged system or a netbook. Ah, I remember the days of the 12" Powerbook... I've got an old 867 Mhz 12" Powerbook G4, and it still feels ahead of it's time :p

If Apple made a 12" Macbook Pro I'd buy it in a hearbeat. Sadly the 13" Macbook pro lacks the full compactness of the 12" PB, and thus lacks the charm. But I digress...

It would be easier for us to help you chose if you could tell us what you intend to do with your future purchase.

For now, i'd say avoid the m11x untill they fix the 'screen-comming-out-issue'.

The M11x is, as noted before, an "ultraportable" - it sits between the netbook and notebook form factor - typically 11"-12" screen size.

Key difference between the M11x versus others in this category is that this is the first of it's kind, in that the GPU is the most powerful in this category ever introduced...

The screen "pop-out" issue is related to some of the member's screens (myself included) showing a gap around the edge of the screens, along with some screens appear to have been "popped out":

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=463747

To date, at least here on these forums - there's only been 5-10 noted instances of screen issues. The screen popping out, can be "fixed" by pushing the screen back in. IMHO - it's a QC issue, in that some of the initial batch of screens provided have various issues. I've pushed back in my screen flush as expected. initially - the screen popped out again - however, after re-pushing in the screen again - it hasn't come back out. All said and done, I've been offered a replacement unit, which I'm currently awaiting. My machine is now probably "ok" - but it's a personal preference to obtain a new system from the factory, plus, Dell/AW has asked I ship this unit back to their main office for Engineering review. I believe they want to see the issue in person (even though it looks like it's fine now).

To answer your question - just depends on your wants/needs of the system.

Do you want a *very* cool portable to whip out at your urban McDonalds or something to do productive work on in addition to gaming? If PORTABLE contemporary light gaming for hours is your thing go for the M11x, or

For $300.00 more you get the M15x:

    - A larger screen

    - A keyboard that won't give you cramps

    - A longer useful life for the machine

    - A screen that will ease eyestrain

    - Upgradeable chassis

    - Better construction

    - Isn't mistaken for baby's first computer (just kidding)

If it were me I'd save my pennies for an M15x any day, but if someone gave me an M11x for Christmas I would be one happy dude!!!

I think taking out any laptop at your local McDonalds is asking for it to be stolen. :p

It's pretty simple. If you game a lot, and the lappy rarely leaves the house M15x. If you can live with running some games on Medium settings, mainly play older games, or on the move a lot, M11x.

if money and portability is not the issue then obviously you should get the m15x....IMO if this is going to be your main gaming rig the m11x will wind up disappointing you.

I'm considering getting the M11x right now, since it seems like a great balance between portability and power that will help in college.

That being said, I also feel the M15x isn't offering anything appealing. It's expensive for what it offers. I'd recommend checking out the Sager NP8690 over at xoticpc.com to check out a real powerhouse 15" machine. I believe it also weighs less than the M15x.

Here's hoping for an M15x refresh soon!

You could get an m11x and a desktop or something. I got the m11x as my main PC and sold off my GTX 285 Core 2 Duo 3ghz etc for it. I'll find out soon how it does. I've been using a 2003 Thinkpad R50 for two months or so as a main PC while thats been selling off piece by piece.

The big AW laptops are awesome but when you think about it, there not that portable, and the battery dies fast. They are all in one, which is cool for LANs, but man, I haven't been to a PC LAN in ages. The people I know who bought the older AW laptops ended up never taking them anywhere half the time.

I mostly got the m11x for it's balance in power and portability and it takes up so much less space then my desktop did. Plus I go all over the place now.

What do you play/do on your PC is the real question. What do you ACTUALLY do? (a lot of people say HD video editing etc and it never actually happens lol)

I love my M11x, for someone like me who enjoys the occasional sports game on the go it's perfect. I played about 2 hours on Madden 08 today sitting in the car with a xbox 360 controller and still had 1 hour more to spare for internet browsing. I was running on the 335m and full brightness too.

I also thought about the M15x but I came to the conclusion that it won't last long on the road, it's big, and if it stays at home my desktop will make fun of it, so M11x it was.

The Asus N10 has a 9300M GS wasn't it the first of it's kind with a dedicated GPU?
