Hi! i am having problem with my m15x when rendering objects using max, sketchup with vray & Autocad as well as converting videos!

I purchase my AW last October 2008 but my AW arrives after two months by the way, when i play games my machines responds very well even i used the quadro 3600m VCard in games but when i used my 3d applications which i used a lot & intended for this machine it fails tha machine will automatically restarts without caution. I checked the GPU's fan it blast @ 85 Deg Cel. & cool down my GPU. I tried to stress the CPU using stress prime & within 5 min my machine restarts. It very embarasing i have the extreme processor, 4gb memory, quadro high end graphics card & It fails? FFFFK.....!!!

One more AW tech support are very rude!.

They want to return my machine in the depot to fix it, What i'm afraid for is how many months until they will ship back my machine & i need to pay the return shipment cost from dubai to UK.

If someone can help me with regards with my issues please reply my thread.

sounds like your CPU is overheating, which has been an issue with the X9000. there are a few things you can do to alleviate this issue:

    1) clean out the vents and fans with some compressed air. don't be afraid to remove the service cover to do this.

    2) upgrade to the X36 BIOS. you can find it here: http://www.audicracy.com/alien/m15x_X36_BIOS.zip

    3) consider investing in an external cooler. my zalman nc2000 dropped my CPU temperature by almost 10°C! popular coolers are the zalman that i have, and the NZXT Cryo LX.

    hope that helped.

Well, if you want them to repair your machine it is more convenient for them to have it at their facilities to fix it. I wouldn't worry about it taking months though. the repair I had done only took 10 days and that was including the shipping time.

that's weird, have you tried using stealth mode and turn it back? see what happens? Or, try a different time try to run that same application again and see if it overheats again. Although mine doesn't have the extreme processor, mine still works fine and doesn't overheat but rose around 75 degree.

Yeah! i tried everything but no luck, now its getting worst when i play games even "faces of war" my m15x freeze & restart automatically. I guess its my CPU coz lately i stressed my GPU alone it works fine but when i stress the CPU it crashed.... Hmmmmm. what to do!!!

By the way my GPU max temp is 85 & when it reach to that point the fan kick to 5600 RPM & the temp 70 to 75 when playing.

For my CPU max temp is 55

It could be that the bios undervolting that the alienware ppl are doing is too low for your specific processor. Try using RMClock to boost up the voltages (low voltages sometimes causes instability)

Hi Whizzo, Its been almost a year since i get back here in the forum.

I put my M15x aside & did not touch it for long time untill i check it last week i thougth its dead, then when i switch it on i saw the windows loading. It feels like i'm back from the dead.

By the way back to my issue your right it's my CPU(X9000). Every time i used my machine at full speed after sometime my m15x just restarts automatically, then i switched it to lower speed & its fine all day long.

I just imagine how embarrassing using an extreme expensive machine @ low speed!!!

I hear that some user change their Thermal paste to cool down the CPU's temp, is it true?

Please someone can give me an ideas how to fix it, it will be a great honor.
