I've got a Alienware M15X and up until now, it has read every disc that I've thrown in it. I just bought Lost Season 3 On DVD and for some reason it won't any of the disc. Could this be a disc format issue? I'm in the U.S.

    Any advice on this?

it could be a codec problem, try playing it with VLC media player, if it doesnt work then it might be an hardware failure... But I doubt it!

Well it seems as though the problem isn't with the actual player, but with the drive to some extent. I can't get none of the Lost DVD's to play, nor can i get Modern Warefare 2, or far cry 2 dvd's to read. But it will read Crysis. So now i'm not sure what is going on.

I tried VLC player, but the DVD player just isn't reading the disc. It's not even showing up under my computer as anything being in the drive.

I'm not sure. It's like it's being selective on what dvd's it will read. It will read crysis, but it won't far cry 2 or modern warfare 2. It will read some cd's that we have laying around here, such as a verizon access manager disc. But it just will not read the lost dvd's from season 3. I don't have season 2 with me, but it read those fine. The dvd's play in other computers.

I dont trust these cleaners, as in the past they have scratched some of my optical drive lenses. Maybe they are better now, but I would still do the following:

    1) Try and flash the DVD drive. The software can be found here:

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...bIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

(You should use The TSST flash if you are having a DVD drive).

    2) if that didnt do the trick, I would boot up ubuntu from either a liveCD or pen drive and verify this doesnt work under the different OS.

    3) If the above also fails, or is too much of a P.I.T.A to do, then I would simply call dell and have the drive replaced.
