I just bought an M15x yesterday for me and my wife.
It came with the A05 BIOS, i updated to A06.
Still the touchpad is laggy.
I hate it!
I do hope it will be fixed!

-
The fix is supposedly coming out in Mid-July (possibly nearer the end of July).
-
I just used my M1730 touchpad again. Smooth as butter... I really don't mind this touchpad as much once I use it for a while. My expectations fall and I start getting used to how horribly it sucks, but as soon as I touch another touchpad, I again realize how horrific this touchpad is, and run back to this thread hoping maybe there will be some update. Heck, I used my dad's $199.00 netbook from Walmart yesterday and the touchpad was better than the M17x. *sigh*
Grr. When did mid-July become late July?
Pretty soon late July will become early August. Maybe if they can delay long enough, they'll just replace the M17x and M15x lines altogether and their problems (not ours) will be solved!

I'd rather have it delayed a bit to resolve whatever issues Brian mentioned instead of a 'sooner than later release' which introduces new issues. -

Have you tried uninstalling Dell touchpad driver and use MS driver instead?
Good Luck! -
Presumably (or hopefully) they are making a new driver with higher polling rate, it's not like they are rewiring the motherboard to incorporate another graphic card. What's the worse that can happen?
-
I PM'd a rep on these forums and was told they are working on it right now.
Didn't give me any time table or anything but at least it's something.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel
-
i can't wait to have a smooth as butter touch pad again like my ancient dell inspiron 5100
-
Yep. Polling speeds are fractionally better (but still completely unacceptable) without the Synaptics driver. But the Windows driver automatically enables tap to click, which I despise, and disables all additional touchpad functionality availed by the Synaptics driver.
I didn't read the rep's comment regarding "other issues" as designating those other issues are directly related to this fix. Rather it just sounds like there are other issues that Dell is focusing on.
I'm just hoping and praying they are actually serious about fixing this. Having an issue around this long doesn't give me much faith that they are taking it as seriously as I would like.
Whatever the case, yes, I'm waiting--as patiently as I possibly can. -
FYI, installed BIOS A06 that was just released for the M17x-R2. No difference.

What does the bios have to do with the driver issue of the touchpad???
-
Nothing. Some might have had wishful thinking so I answered the question before it was asked, seeing as we're at about "mid-July".
-
The new touchpad driver released:
7/12/2010 3:10 AM R272924.exe
Version: 15.0.25
Don't fix the touchpad issues. -
Where are you finding this driver?
-
newest one so far is 15.0.15.0 for m17x from dell US website! is this one direct from synaptic?
-
Its not a fake, look at all the fixes in the txt.
15.0.25 -

Invalid or Deleted File ?
-
Nobody here said it was fake we just wanted to know where to get it?! The fact that the link is dead and you haven't been able to tell us where it is leads me to believe it's fake now.
Post source please so we can all benefit if it fixes the track pad. -
but he stated that it didn't.
let's all just wait for an official Dell's fix. -
Sorry.. fixed.
R272924.7z -
Sorry to be a nag but where did you find it?
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
Not gonna dl it anymore. Anyone who check his uploaded file, please share some info.
-
Dell, heres the real link: (its just twice as big, since not .7z)
R272924 -
sorry, wish it wasn't so..
-
I'm of the same opinion.
Why is it twice as big if it's a synaptic driver surely it should be the same size as dell post updates as installer packages?! -
I 7z'iped it (you can't upload exe). do a hash check if you don't believe me, plus i gave you the actual link.
-
Apologies for the doubt Vico100. Can confirm its legit just gonna reboot now and see whats different if anything. +rep
-
First impressions are that its just a dell ui overlay. If you have the multitouch drivers installed and active they will still work but i cant find anyway to modify.
Change log makes reference to 4 finger flicks but cant find any way to enable. -
Dunno if you guys saw this, but it helped my machine a lot. Didn't improve the touch-pad a lot, but improved overall responsiveness noticeably.

multitouch drivers? you mean the scrybe pack?
and 4 finger click? bleh, just fix the poll rate first pls haha -
^^^^ This.
-
Lame. I was just downloading this BIOS and had my fingers crossed that it might have the fix.
-
No there's a hp driver somewhere on this forum that enables up to 3 finger guesture. Ie two finger scrolling and three finger flicks.
-
I *never* use a mouse on my laptops. Actually, all the way back to my original XPS probably 7 years ago I've never even plugged or synced a mouse to my laptop. I'm exclusively a touchpad user. Fixing this makes a *huge* difference to me. 99% of the time if I'm at home, my laptop is being used from a couch or my bed.
-
Laptops are designed to be used with a touchpad not a mouse.
-
^^the irony being that this would never fly on a $500 laptop but they actually got away with it for this long with a $2k+ laptop heh.
-
I notice my post from yesterday was removed, I guess it's not OK to say the touch pad is a piece of crap and should have been fixed 1 year ago. Only positive comments are OK and the M17X-R2 is the most perfect laptop in the world with the best working touch pad on the planet so no need to complain. Or to fix it for that matter.
-
No your post along with several others was removed due to bickering back and forth... you can say the touchpad is horrible and I will most certainly agree with you. Next time you (or anyone else) has an issue with posts being edited, removed or any other mod action - send a PM to a mod and it will be discussed... posting about it only serves to derail the thread.
-BB -
Exactly. If I wanted to use a mouse and sit at a desk, I'd have a desktop. I don't understand how people keep trying to justify the horrible responsiveness of this touchpad by saying you shouldn't be using the touchpad. Oh yes, you bought a high-end laptop, but that particular component of the product, goodness, why would you use it?
Of course not! That would mean they're taking their customers seriously.
[Sarcasm]
Sheesh! What kind of customer expects a solid date for a fix? Isn't "we're working on it" good enough for you? After a year of completely ignoring the problem, it's obvious that Dell/Alienware are completely dedicated to fixing this issue.
[/Sarcasm] -

Seems the first complaint they received is only a few months back so get your facts straight before you [sarcasm]
Your right about things but don't overreact and give some respect for the people from dell on this website because they are the ones who helped us with alot of things in the past. -
Hey guys! Two things.
1. I contacted Chris at dell and got this response:
They are testing a bios update which should fix the issue. No ETA.
DELL-Chris M
2. I use this website to get all of my synaptics drivers so I tried the latest one on my M15x and I am experiencing mixed results. Sometimes it will go to 60Hz and up, while other times it will hover around 20-30Hz. Let me know what you guys experience if you decide to try the driver out. -
I think it was like page 3 that I stated that a BIOS update fixed an HP laptop in the past.
Just sayin'.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Weird this comes from the bios. Then dell really needs to hire some new people to make their product stand out softwarely.
-
Really, first complaint was only a few months back? I returned a laptop over this in November. So I have a hard time believing they haven't known about it.
If nobody escalated the issue to engineering, despite telling me it had been escalated, I call that a problem on their side of the fence, not on mine. I called and complained about the issue enough times that they agreed to replace the laptop. They told me then that they had never heard of the issue before.
When I got my new laptop months later, it had the same issue and AGAIN they told me they had never heard of this issue.
Maybe I should be more patient with Dell, but the M17x has had far more issues than it should have. Understandably, this was at the bottom of the list compared to all the other problems, but to claim they didn't know about it at all is just dishonest. Anyone who used this computer with the touchpad knows about the issue. -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Im talking on this site... dell phone support sucks we all know that. But the dell people on this site dont.... its all i am saying.
We might need there help again so. If you talk to a rep he is going to handle your case alone but thats all, it was only 2 or 3 months ago people directly from dell heard about this.
-
Good to know there's a fix in the works, though the touchpad has never bugged me cause I guess I'm used to using "crap" touchpads. I've been using worse my whole life. (Plus, I thought it was completely normal) XD
-
ESPECIALLY since the touchpad works under Linux just fine.... which drivers just so happen to magically have increased polling rate....
-
If the touchpad works under non-windows systems fine (e.g. Ubuntu 9,10 work PERFECT for me), then why should it be related to the bios?
-
maybe:
Windows+bios=problem
can't change windows so:
windows+ new bios=fix
is the only way i can imagine the issue... but i don't know a damn thing how the bios can affect an OS. too bad the new bios willl be only for M17x R2... it sucks.. -
oh no. that sounds bad.
Windows + bios = problem.
Windows + new bios = fix
linux + new bios = ??
i dont even wanna think about it.
