Just trying to lower the temps to 10 degrees or more.
Now I've never applied AS5 in my life, so how do I actually apply the paste on the X9000? A small squirt on the top of it will do? I have this feeling of placing greasy substance especially on electronic parts. really bugs me.anyone has ever done it? sorry if this has been asked before.
edit: which is better? I see there are 2 types: Ceramique or the Ordinary AS5? What's up with the difference?![]()

Theres instructions on the AS5 website.
You just put a rice grain of AS5, spread a thin layer on the surface using a blade or something flat. -

personally i think AS5 is over rated. The curing time takes a bit too long...200 hours. I use OCZ Freeze which has no curing time and it is just as effective as AS5.

Did you mean 10C or 10F? I think that a 10F drop in temp with AS5 (or another premium thermal compound) is a possibility, however a 10C drop in temp may be a bit unrealistic UNLESS AW did a really terrible job with the original thermal compound that they applied. What is your laptop running at right now, and what is the ambient temp (please include units).
Edit
AS5 is generally viewed to be better at removing heat, ceramique is better if you are worried about shorting something out (probably not an issue on a CPU if you apply it correctly, but a GPU could be an issue depending on the type). -
use mx2... imo better than as5
