I just got my Alienware M15x (April 10th, 2008) and noticed immediately that the lower left Control key had a little extra wiggle. After no time at all the whole key came off. It had two of the four hinges that keep the key in place, broken.

I called AW and they are sending a replacement right out but I am curious if others have had this problem.

My keyboard does not have the flex that others have observed and I wonder if AW has done something to the keyboard to resolve the issue.

The broken key might have been due to handling during shipping. When I received my m9750, it was missing the down arrow key. I quickly found it in the package and snapped it back into place and I have had no trouble with it since.
I am sure mine occurred during shipment. Either was AW is responsible for fixing the broken key.

I had a problem with my J key. It used to pop out easily.
It's not a big deal though since they send you a new keyboard.

holy #$%^. is this that common? I am considering this laptop, and would freak if this was the case.

(or an x300 or m1330, heh a bit different eh?)

Don't worry about it that much. It's not a big problem IF it happened that you have this problem they will send you a new keyboard.

Or a key, if its the key that broke. It's rare to have a key break (never had one on any of my laptops) but its nothing to be worried about.

I have just had this happen to me, my down arrow broke off. It had been loose, one of the little teeth that hold it to the frame was bent to breaking point and then snapped. will they send out a replacement key?

Call them and they will send you a replacement keyboard. They will also ask you to follow the steps on their website and change it your self (well, that's what they offered me back then).
