I don't know if I should bite or wait until the M15x gets refreshed. The main thing that concerns me is that if I buy it, I will be spending $2,500+ on system with DDR2 @ 667.

Any news as to when it'll be bumped up to DDR3? Or a CPU with a 1066FSB?

Also, are both the Skullcap and the Ripley covers made from magnesium alloy? Or is the the Skullcap plastic while the Ripley is mag-alloy?

With CES 09 coming up (m15x & m17x were showed there last year), It would not be a bad idea to wait. just remember that it won't go on sale right after CES is over.

Well, the site indicates it's mag alloy. Or is it referring to another section of the case?

    And when is CES '09?

    yup.

the FRAME is mag-alloy, the casing (the outer part that you can actually see) is plastic.

only the M15x was showed on the last CES
differences between DDR2 and DDR3 for gaming are not noticeable
    and DDR2 are cheaper...
and if you have a 32bit OS you dont need more than 4G of RAM

CES was an excellent suggestion also because there may even be a better notebook that comes out then its gonna be interesting to see what they have.

The m17x was shown as well in last years CES, cept with m15x paint. The m15x had black glossy m17x paint on at CES as well.

the offering was likely not cost-effective. if they make the change they'll likely do so with a new version of the m15x... kinda like what they did with the m9700/9750s.

just seems like the most probable outcome.
