Hi guys, Ive been wondering what the difference in frame rates would be
(both with GTX260M) on an M15x:

    i7 720QM with 1600x900 screen
    i7 820QM with 1920x1080 screen

Would it be wiser to stick to a lower resolution with the 720QM?
    Many thanks in advance!

maybe its just me, but 1080p on a 15 inch monitor is gonna look small

Thanks, I did find the 1080p a bit small on the 15 inch but I thought I could get used to it. My main worry with it is how the higher res would affect the gaming performance (fps) - and if it did, then would i have to spend the extra $$$ to upgrade the CPU?

Your CPU won't affect much on game performance anyway.

1080p is quite small on my M17x. I often have to zoom in in FireFox to read stuff easier (I often sit far from my lappy tho)

Thanks for your reply, so if I take the CPU out or the equation, then having a lower native resolution (and making stuff bigger on the screen) should help with gaming performance?

Well you will need someone more knowledgable than me (at least in i7 stuff) to clarify how much of an improvement 820QM vs 720QM.

But in overall there are 2 things you should keep in mind:

    - Your GPU will bottleneck game performance long before CPU starts kicking in so as long as your CPU is not a bottleneck, more powerful CPU doesn't help much.

    - I suggest you should see for yourself each resolution in real life if you can to see whether 1080p is of your taste or not. If you really need extra space (say you have graphic related jobs or are a multitasker) and have a fox's eyes then you may want higher res. If you are an old lady and more about game performance then go for lower res. Don't go for high res then lower it down in game because your game will look weird.

i have 1080 and i play games no problem, maybe its less frames per second, but you'll never till the difference. watching blueray is amazing on this screen. i can also read text no problem, if you get blueray drive then this is a must. if not then no big deal.

p.s. loving your avatar silly honey

All you have to do is raise DPI in windows settings you can make the text any size you want without having to zoom to see anything... This comes up once a week here at least. You dont have to have small txt to set your resolution to 1080p. I have a 720qm and 1080p and that setup is nice. Remember that whatever screen you get is the one you gotta live with, a cpu can be upgraded down the road but the 720 is capable by todays standards.
