    Hey guys,

Its my first post here, but I've been reading the forum for a while now.

I'm having a overheating problem (probably) with my 8800m GTX and was hoping any of you could help me out here.

I read dozens of threads here trying to find a solutions and the only one I found was to update the bios, but that didn't worked for me(I'm using the X36).

I'm getting the absurd temperature of 75-80 degrees while IDLE. While im typing this, its up to 83C. But even tho my GPU is so hot, my CPU temperature doesnt go over 40c, its usually between 32 and 36 (idle).

When using thermo fan, i can see that the Fan One (Cpu) is running at 5000+rpm, while the Fan Two (Which i believe is the GPU one) is runnig at 3400rpm max. Is there anyway to increase the second fan speed?

Usually, when i try to play a game, the screen goes all black, but I can still hear the game sounds, so I know the computer is not completely frozen, just a video issue. I can only imagine is because of the overheating.

I tried to update the video drivers. Even tried to use some tweaked by DOX, none solved this issue. I couldn't use the last driver released as the 185.XX drivers still wont work on AW, for what I heard and test it myself.

Well, let me know if you need more information to help me out. I probably forgot to say a thing or two.

    Thanks a lot.

If those are your temps at idle, and your screen goes black during gameplay, I would say its definitely your graphics card. You can rule out a couple things if you like, such as running Memtest86 and prime95 to stress your Memory/CPU. Is your computer still under warranty?

My 8800mGTX gets 105C Idle. I guess mine is absurd X 2 lol Hopefully yours is still under warranty. Did you check for lint build up?

Thank you for the prompt reply.

@ZevoOptik, I did what you said and ran the Memtest86 and did some tests with Prime95. Got no errors at all with neither one, so I guess we ruled out the memory/CPU. Any other sugestions? If it is as I suspect, and my GPU is screwed up, do you have any guesses on what exactly is the problem?
My computer is still under warranty, but I live in Brazil, and it would be really troublesome to send it over to U.S. I dont believe there is a repair facility in my country.

@lightboy56 105c? And it still works? Omg. You should check your GPU too. 0o

I guess the only thing that you could try that i know of is to switch to the integrated graphics and try some lower level game. If that checks out, I would definitely say your card is toast.

@Zevo, a quick update. I got really pissed just now and formated the machine and installed Windows XP instead of the Vista Ultimate i was using. Since i changed the OS, I obvisouly changed all the drivers and the temperature droped to a stable 50c while Idle. Plus, my DPC Latency droped from 1000 to 70-90. So now im inclined to think that maybe it was a driver problem. Anyway, I'm in the proccess of re-downloading my games to try it out again and see if those "black outs" are still happening. Ill try to keep you all updated. Maybe there is someone else with the same problem as I do.

Also, ill try it with Win 7 later on and see how it goes. I dont know about the drivers for it tho...dont think AW released any.

Anyway, hope it solved the black screen problems.

    just wondering then...
did you do the moded .inf for the driver from doc?
did you uninstall the previous versions of drivers prior to install of new ones?
not saying you didn't, but this last update leads me to think there was a conflict.

Actually, you guys should forget this last update a gave you. It was late night (4 am) and I was too tired to realize that the GPU was in constant downclock. Its running on 200/100/400 and thats why the temp went down. And I cant seem to run it on normal clocks. Can anyone tell me how to do it?
