Hi All, been a while since I've posted on here :)

Need some advice, recently for the last 2 weeks or so my M15X has been shutting down randomly. At first i thought it was overheating as it first happened while gaming but after closely monitoring temps (when i finally managed to get it to turn back on) it seems like all the temps were normal before the shutdown.

A few days later it shut down again but this time when i was just browsing the web and other time when i was watching a video on media player and another when I was working with execl. So my best guess is that the harddrive is preparing to go on me as the thermal temps have not changed at all (in fact they have gone down since getting the cryo lx). Before picking up a new hdd i wanted to make usre that it would fit, so i came here to ask :)

I am looking at getting the following: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=023760&cid=HDD.517.47

I'm pretty sure it will fit, but like i said just wanted to make sure on here before I go pick it up in the morning.

Oh and i have the old gen m15x not the new i7 incarnation (although I really want one).

You should check your Event Log to see what is causing your shutdowns before blindly purchasing replacement hardware.

Whoops forgot to mention that i have checked there :)

But from what I remember it was just a generic message is the system log and i did not find anything abnormal in the application log. let me double check the log again since it just happened.

    *edit found it*

"The Previous system shutdown at 9:16:50 PM on 12/1/2009 was unexpected.

Might want to look over a few of these... might point you in the right direction.
