13 so far (plus darkfly that had a cracked hinge, but it wasn't exactly the same issue... although I think it was quite similar).

    I see, wow 13 users already :(

That's the only thing I'm worried about in the m15x now. I can't help but feel paranoid whenever I open the lid :(

Well, being optimistic, all our effort (and AW's good will), gave some results. But this is something we will see in the future. It's completely impossible to predict whether something changed or not.

We have a couple of isolated reports from people that contacted CS claiming there's an improved chassis. We know that there is no new revision model of the chassis (as the model numbers from before are the same as new ones). We also know what an AW rep told us, that they did not revise the chassis and the only thing they did, was to introduce the skullcap (which some owners that had both, claim it's the same built).

So we are all playing a lot of speculations on this "gamble". We will have to wait and see. As someone mentioned, if you have your warranty, you shouldn't worry much with whatever happens. If worst comes to happen, then at least we have a large collection of cases and stories to back each costumer and get their problems solved.

Yeah milcs, the community really appreciates the effort you put into that thread. :)

Well, customer service also told me that the problems have been solved with this "so called" new batch. I just hope that it is true. While I do have warranty, shipping the unit back and forth from where I live would cost about 400-500 USD :(

PM Alienware-Armando or Alienware-James. Though, you may not be able to if you're a new user. They check by relatively often so hopefully one of them will see. Or post enough or something and it will let you PM.

Hey when you say broken hinge you mean that the whole screen is loose or that you have a noticeable gap between the black side of the screen and the silver cover?

I ask because ive been trying to get around to sending my lappy back to get both an upgrade and also repair a gap that I have when I close my screen on the back side.

    Seventeen so far...
On the positive side, it has been a long time since we haven't had someone at the forums reporting a broken hinge.

Terabita1, if you can post some pictures that would be appreciated.

    Cheers

I got mine at the beginning of may. I will post some pictures soon; I think that the problem is partly resulting from the great amount of heat generated in that area of the M15x causing some pieces to expand or distord. I don't know.
About how many post should I...... post :) before I can PM and do you really think that I can get a full refund or at least a store credit because I think I'm done with this notebook?

Is this actually inhibiting hinge movement? can it be glued back?

Well its is not really inhibiting hinge movement but my concern is that it might worsen after time. I also beleve its would not be a great idea to glue that back together

I hear the same noise you hear when you open your notebook. A noise of plastic twisting. I am able to put it back in place but as soon as I release pressure the gap come back. It is like some part of the inside of the m15x had taken expansion and was pushing on the exterior

You guys must be kidding, no? It's BROKEN... It's all shattered inside. How the hell do you fix that? You tape it??? :|
Those are quite ugly pictures terabita... sorry that this happened to you.
Your best chance is really just sending it back and hope AW will be able to deal with it.

Good luck and thanks for the photos.

even if you could tape the notebook i dont think you should bother. its better to just send it into AW and let them fix it. this is their fault anyways...

You should only put tape and glue on your NB if the warranty expires.

Send it back! Seriously though be careful without as more stress could cause other damages, which they could deem your fault.

I didn't get a a full refund as in money back but they did give me full store credit. I ordered a desktop Alienware Area51 - ALX instead. Laptop are laptops and hey could never be a desktop replacement no matter how much we spend.

All in all it ended up costing me $3000 more but it's worth it (we hope) and this time Austin computers and its customers wont be playing games on our new Alienware before we receive it. Bought and dealt with Alienware direct this time ;)

Alienware are really great bunch of people I am sure you won't get your full refund after the length of time you have had it for.

    Not in my case.

Alienware heard of my story with Austin computers, they stepped in and rectified it for me immediately.

I do understand why they wouldnt give me my full refund as in cash back. It would be bad business to give everone their money back.

I got a new MacBook Pro laptop for my daughter and wife instead, and bought the Alienware Area 51 ALX Desktop with the refund.

This US customers with special website access preveliges has to stop don't you think?

Why do the rest of the world espciallly us feel like second rate customers? We dont have access to the forum what so ever. It's just aint fair.

And how about opening your forum to the rest of the world so we could read about any issues that you are having problems with before we could make our decisions with any Alienware purchases?

I am sure we ain't gonna steer clear just because we read some horror stories, it just might mean we would end up getting other Alienware product instead. And you might also notice it would also help with your quality control.

    Thanks mate.

My first post here... unfortunately not a good news one

My M15x hinge broke at the end of september when I opened the lid... Alienware have agreed to fix this under warranty and have had the laptop now for 5 weeks and I've had no update for 3weeks! Every time I phone them they say they will send an email update and none ever comes though! The last I heard it was in 'diagnostics' phase... seriously it's pretty obvious what's wrong with it... I don't think it needs in-depth diagnosis.

Another casualty to add to the list...

    A very angry M15x owner.

Sorry to start my posting here with rants but I'm sure those who have experienced this same issue may understand.

    Thanks Ennea,
I've sent Roswell an email (got their address from another post on the forum) since I do not have PM rights yet :)

Hopefully, I've explained the situation well enough to them.

I'm hoping I've not got lost in the system.... I loved that laptop (sad but true :) )

Edit: I'm based in the UK.

Not sad at all. Contrary to what people say in this forum, there's a bunch of us that absolutely love our m15x's. :) I'm one of them.

Roswell/Armando/James are all pretty reliable so best of luck with that.

Most importantly, reports of recently acquired M15x sharing this problem have started to surface...

I think that this hinge problem is definitely widespread whether you guys like it or not. In my time on notebook review this is one of the largest problems I've seen that isn't just a vague problem but a duplication of a problem over and over.

For example: My GPU's on my M9750 died but I wouldn't call that a widespread error. Why? I have seen GPU problems on the M9750 but none of them were linked in the same way that this hinge issue is.
