I wanted to know if the problem have been solved since we pass 2009? All the posts about problems seem to date from fall 2008.

I'm hopeful that the one I'm buying won't have that problem. That's the only thing I'm a bit concerned about. I have searched long and hard for all the information I could get on the problem, and while most of the other things seemed to have been solved, I haven't seen where this was definitively fixed. Most of the posts I've seen late last year into this year was from people who had already owned them for several months. So I'm hopeful but still have some reasonable doubt.

I have personally yet to see one on the new skullcap design for the m15x, which hopefully means the chasis was updated

Hmm..maybe I should change my design from Ripley to the Skull. That's not the first time I've heard that about the skull design vs the Ripley. It seems they're building it differently with the skull vs the ripley?

there was one recent (from memory) of a skull unit faltering.
aside from that, the reports have diminished, but a few seem to linger still. -
In my mind, your bigger concern regarding the m15x should be the quality control in the assembly/testing/shipping phases. While I don't doubt that they install and run 3dmark on each and every system before they toss 'em out the door, I suspect the revisions made to their "200-point Quality Control" nonsense may have lead to some oversights.
Consider how many of the vital 200 points have been discarded because of issues like the 14 checks and rechecks added for GPU sticker removal before applying thermal paste.
In all seriousness though, AW paints a lovely picture of your m15x not shipping until it's perfect, but in reality the only difference between AW and a company like Dell is that Dell builds on speculation.
Negativity aside, my 2/27/09 arrived m15x has some cherry hinges. no noises, creaks, etc. Just enough screen wobble to remind you to take your notebook off your lap and put it on a flat stable surface... YEESH! And really, a year after they started shipping, this is still a monster for most current games all the while still capable of getting 5+ hours doing the simple stuff (get that smart bay batt). Who else packs that into a realistic size (no offense 17"ers, but even Andre the Giant would look silly carrying one of those), and backs it up like Roswell?
And with that reaffirmation of my sensible purchase complete, I'll ignore the foreboding squeaks of my spacebar as I share my brand new systems foibles as shipped. Most specifically, the whole top half of my notebook body (not screen).
--You know, the bit that surrounds the keyboard, has all the the touch resistive buttons and the touchpad. Yeah, that's all one piece, touchpad included...--
Well, my m15x shipped with a few rather obvious problems in this part, and the only way to remedy it is to ship my now one week old notebook back to them, and wait in line behind all the other systems in for repair, in the good faith hope that it will return to me working.
At least Roswell will tell me the truth when their service department is busy...
Anyway, buyer beware and such, or better yet, EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!
