Both CPU and GPU should stay under 50C when idle (depending on the ambient)
    What are your temps?

Did you clean the vents lately? Is your system always on a flat surface with the vents unobstructed and does it get sufficient airflow? Also, what are your room temps?
You might also consider replacing the thermal paste.

How does one measure the CPU and GPU temps? Apologies for my ignorance.
What effect does a room temperature of around 30°C have?

    Thanks in advance.

On idle with Stealth option enabled, my CPU temp stays between 50 to 60 while my GPU in 50/51. Room temperature is 27.

Room temps increase will increase the CPU/GPU idle and load temps proportionally.

I've been through all the normal procedures, vents are clean, laptop is tilted upwards on a flat laptop cooler (which makes very little difference), good air circulation, it's brand new so doubt its the thermal paste, not sure what room temp is but it was very cold this morning but still around 50C on idle.
Did have an issue where the fans stayed on 100% after boot which gave me a temp of 30 but it was annoying so had to restart to put the fans back to normal.

When I had my M15x, the GPU maxed out at 46 degrees and then GPU fan would start spinning, reducing the temp to 37 degrees.

The CPU was usually much more hotter at idle, was something like 55 degrees, cant remember the temp range.

IMO, your CPU temps are fine. Maybe slightly higher than normal but still ok. It's the max above 80-90C that you really need to worry about.
I'd replace the thermal paste with AS-5 or MX-3 (or any other high quality compound), it surely can help you by another 5-10C.

    Thanks a lot, InappropriateName.
My Idle temperatures seem to be quite low:
    GPU: 40.0°C
    CPU: 41.0°C

Is that normal is that too low?

    Great! Good to know.
It's actually fun playing around and discovering more and more about the machine. If I don't watch it I might start doing benchmarks! LOL :D
