Just making sure I've found the most recent information - do the throttling issues still exist on the M15x?

Was thinking about getting one, but those issues are very disturbing to me. Seems that Dell won't address the power supply issue directly. Rather, they are offering a bios to throttle the CPU less (as if any throttling under full load is acceptable).

Are there alternative gaming laptops I should be considering? Would like the latest ATI GPU or the 260/280GTX etc.

    Thanks

From the research done in the throttling thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=439546), it's not a power supply issue, but seems rather to be a BIOS issue. There is a fix posted in that thread, if you need it.

As for alternative gaming laptops, a lot depends on exactly what kind of solution you're looking for. Are you looking for a single card solution, or a dual SLI solution? If you were considering the M15x, it would seem that you were looking more at a single card solution, and in that case, you should probably be looking at a Sager/Clevo as an alternative (W860CU/NP8690 for 15", W870CU/NP8760 for 17"), or an Asus G51 variant, or maybe even the G73JH if you're willing to wait. If you'd rather go for a dual SLI solution, there's the obvious step up to the M17x, or, if you're willing to go all the way up to 18.4", there is the Sager/Clevo M980NU/NP9850, or their upcoming X8100.

Thanks for the recommendations. Single card is probably my preference. It's too bad we have to do a bit of a hack to make the throttling stop. :\
