Hey there, just thought this might be a useful thread to the lucky few of us who have recieved our m15x's in the uk. im basically very happy with my laptop, not had any problems whatsoever. i can understand people maybe moaning a little that the lid is flimsy, or that the keyboard bends a little. but to me, these are minor points and are not even worth worrying about. the laptop loooks sublime, it is very impressive, im digging the blue alien fx man. after all the messing aqround and waiting, getting annoyed and pissed off, now i have it, im very happy about it.
My only little problem is this, when mine laptop is running off the battery, the screen dims, which is understandable, but ive tried changing the settings in power manager in the control centre to make it stay the same, basically, making all settings the same whether its plugged in or not, but it still dims down!! anyone know is theres anything else that could be causing this, maybe in windows power settings as opposed to the control centre? any help would be appreciated as when it not plugged in it is a bit too dark for me.

Hey guys received my m15x today !!!!
Some quick details I need to go study for an exam tomorrow

Keyboard lighting seems a bit uneven and also dull when viewed from some angles
LAN port a bit tight
Happy so far will check for downclocking and other issues tomorrow -
am i allowed in here yet?

thanks for your input ioaniro, ive got a file transfer going at the minute, 28gb of samples for music production, so once thats finished, in the morning i guess lol, ill have a look in the bios, i havent actually been into bios yet so its definately worth a butchers.
congratulations mortis and welcome to the owners club, lol. i guess looking at mine now, the top right of the keyboard is ever so slightly dimmer than the rest, but only noticeable once youd said about yours. as i said, im very happy with mine, if i dont run it in stealth mode, it does get warm under the arrow keys, not too hot though i dont think, keep my rigt hand warm anyway hehe. -
ok then, so, i looked in bios and cant see anything like that kind of option. so i rang aw a minute ago and spoke to roger, who inturn spoke to a "level 2" tech guy who told him to tell me that its is normal for the screen to dim when not plugged into the wall because of how "extraordinarily powerful and clean" the m15x is and it uses large amounts of electricity so the battery cant manage the same brightness!, so, anyone else noticed this? i know its not major, but i was trying to show my friends at work something today in a bright room, and didnt have the power lead and it was quite difficult to see the screen. maybe im just gonna have to carry the charger with me all the time then!
-
You must have an option to increase the brightenss of your screen. Press Fn+something else. Just look around the keyboard.
-
fn+f4 will increase brightness.

I'm extremely happy with my Alienware apart from the the fact I just found out just now, after numerous times clipping it back on, that that one of the clips on the bottom of the shift key is broken, I wonder if they would send me just a replacement shift key.
-
tacomenace21 thankyou very much, didnt realise i could do that, problem solved!!! now, why didnt the alienware level 1 or 2 techincian know that????
-
Cause they don't hang out on the forums! BTW ask any time
-
-
hey everyone, how you all getting on, any other lucky people got their laptops yet? im just looking for a cooling stand/mat, anyone got any reccomendations?
-
Hi lucky m15x UK owners! (although I am from the Czech Republic)
I received my Alien on thursday and so far I am extremely satisfied. The AW control report says that it did 10352 points in 3DMark06. Is it possible? At what resolution?
I have X30 bios, so I tested downclocking with ATITool and it is ok - at 89°C fans kicked the high speed and decreased the temperature to 78°C, no downclocking. And I played Oblivion at highest settings, the highest temperature was 84°C, no problems. Iddle temperatures are between 55-65. I use the Zalman NC-2000 cooler.
I am not sure whether it is necessary to download X32 bios (after it will be available on UK website...). What do you think?
So happy gaming with m15x. -
It would probably be better to update to the X32 bios at some point, but you might as well wait until the final version comes out since you have no problems.

Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
Yeah dont fix it if it aint broke.
-
hey, ive just downloaded atitool, and cant really work out what im doing, ive tried a few things but it keeps telling me that the video card does not seem to be used by windows? ive tried it with stealth mode off and on and its the same. also, ive just ordered a cooling matt, as the right hand side off my m15x does seem to be getting pretty hot, not burn me hot, but hot enough for me to think maybe its a bit too hot. i think the highest temp ive seen for my gpu is about 86 ish? anyone else notice theirs being overly hot?
-
also, ive just noticed the ageia folder in the start menu, yet when i open the properties, it tells me theres no ageia phsyx processor installed?
-
Just a small question: do the people in 'mainland-europe' get the normal electricityplug or do we get a British one? I ask this because, when I get the m15x, I would not like to see that I can't plug it in the ac...

im officially allowed in here now,YIPPEE!
)
-
Yay, Congratulations Mrdj. Good News
-
Congrats indeed
Now we we will be teasing you by demanding a review -
thanks guys
review coming soon. -
-
I'm officially allowed in here as well
I have to say, it went pretty fast... Phase 9 in ten days...
-
That's pretty good considering how long it's been taking others, however I see you ordered the WUXGA screen -- the 1440x900s are currently backordered and holding up lots of people
-
That might be the reason. But still, if you look how long it took till MrDJ's rig was sent it seems like no time at all... Anyway, does somebody know how long it will take to travel from Ireland to the Netherlands?
-
anyone know if its possible to just ask for a european plug from the american store? Ive noticed the huge price difference between EU and northern american sites. If i buy my configuration here in the EU, then i would end up paying a surplus of 700euro against the same spec model bought in america. thats why im going to buy it in the US and bring back. EU prices are a ripoff. 700euro is almost the rate for my plane ticket.
-
-
would anyone know if its easy enough to change the cpu's on these? I would like the extreme 2.8ghz perhaps later on, but im not paying an extra 500 to just get 300mhz more of cpu atm
-
aww! spore isnt out yet? you reminded me about that game whizzo.... now im going to be all anxious up untill then!
-
if you change your cpu yourself you will void the warranty .. you would have to send it in to alienware if you want to upgrade the cpu and keep the warranty!
-
actually, don't you just have to ask them if it's okay to upgrade your CPU?
-
yeah, i thought if you have a certified tech there with you while you talk to them on the phone then its ok.
-
ok, so had my laptop a while now and thought it was time maybe a few of us had a couple of comparisons? ive just come up with times and my 3dmaek06 score as starters, obviously if any thinks of other better stuff then cool.
it takes my laptop 43 secs from pressing the power button(lights coming on) to display the desktop.
its takes 1min 32 secs to restart from desktop
and it takes 23 secs to shutdown from desktop.
my highest score on 3dmark06 so far is 10170.
cant really think of anything else, let me know -
Laptop was deliverd on monday but only just got home to have a look at it....
I'm all excited, power on the beast and WHAM! hit with an error message soon as I get to the desktop. nothing major, just some nero essential BS, so I cleared it up with a reinstall. wonder how many quality points were actually checked...
aside form that, I'm very happy with it after 6 hours or so of use! still setting the damn thing up to my likings -
-
was some kinda registry problem according to the eror message and i'm by no means an expert. I reinstalled nero and it's gone but the fact that there was an error at boot tells me they might not be as thoroughly inspected as alienware claim
-
advice to AW
stop pre loading nero as almost everyone has had the same problem. -
guys bad news, mine burst into flames......
Joke !!!!! really tho its the best thing since the big bang. only problem i have is my hdmi audio doesnt work..
They told me to uninstall the drivers and re install etc etc,but just back from spain so will do it tomorrow
Also gaming on this baby is the business -
-
Remember that <- I said kept coming off? Well I think the key is actually broken. Do you think they would send me that key? I'll phone them tomorrow to see about this and about my media card reader not recognizing the memory stick
.
-
Thought I'd take a little break from jumping off roofs and stabbing people to catch up with other UK owners.
I have to say I am a very satisfied Alienware customer; it really is such a shame to see people having so many problems, although mostly these seem to be software related.
Crystak, regarding your memory stick issues, which I think you raised on another thread: I have just tried mine with a Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo in an a Memory Stick Duo adaptor and it worked instantly. Not sure if you said it was Memory Stick or SD you were using. Before you call - please don't think this is a silly question....But, have you got it the right way. When you insert itthe cut-away corner is to the left and it clicks into place on a spring clip (you have to push it in again to unclip it). Hope this helps
-
..... i want mine........ i wanit now!!!........ I.... miss.... PC
-
-
mhh ... still in phase 4 and ETA time is up ... THAT sucks ... 3 weeks in phase 4
I'm just 2 weeks in Germany from now on and I hope it will arrive in this time otherwise I have to travel from Denmark back to Germany to pick it up!
-
sorry to oiss everyone that hasnt got theres yet off, but take it as positive news, but since i updated the bios, i have absolutely nothing wrong with my m15x. it is a great machine, its fast at doing pretty much everything, plays games excellently, ive just started making my first track on it and it handles cubase, soundforge and acid with ease even with csti's running!
-
talked again to a CS today and she said all my parts are available and it will go in production this week but she could not tell me when... ^^ so I hope they will start soon!
