Having issues with the hibernate and sleep functions on my new M15x. It can never wake, I always have to make a hard shutdown and boot the system again.
Problem is that I have to carry my M15x around in a bag when changing location in school, and it is quite bothersome having to close down everything between each lesson. I am worried that if I do not do something to shut it down, it will overheat and damage the hardware.

I would appreciate any advice you could give.

Often it's a driver problem.. What I would do is this:

    1 Update/change the video driver.

    If it doesn't work:

Update all the drivers on the Alienware site.

    If it doesn't work:

Disable most of the extra drivers from touchpad to IR device to see if that helps.

    Last resorts:

Reinstall from scratch - the alienrespawn might not fix it, so try a clean install.

If none of these fix it, call tech support.

That's what I would do anyway, hope it helps :)

So you can't get it to hibernate? Do you have any external keyboard or mouse connect to the laptop? If you do then go to device manager and disable it. Just uncheck the box that said keep this device from hibernate. I don't remember exactly what it said but you will know what i'm talking about when you there.

you can de-activate the hibernate function entirely: let the laptop go to sleep or fully shut down only -- that fixes it.
