I just tested both my M15x and Nokia N95 8gb phone, and it turns out that the phones speakers are muchhhhh louder then the m15x's speakers, isnt it sad how such a small phones volume can be louder then a $3000.00 laptop...pathetic

P.S. Please dont say all laptops speakers are low because I heard a cheap HPs Altec Lansing speakers and they were amazingly loud.

Well, none of the m15x reviews said anything nice about the speakers :p. I can tolerate the speakers for a weekend, until I can hook up my external speakers again.

To be fair though, the N95 has some mean speakers. :p I haven't heard a phone that can play music louder than that thing. :p My c905 comes close but doesn't quite compare. :'<

No matter how good internal speakers in laptops could get, they're still not going to be near surround sound. Just get surround sound. :)

M17 speakers are louder then N95 ones.
I often use N95 internal gps with my M17.
But to have good sound an amplifier is a must...

I've never understood how so many people and laptop reviewers get hung up on the poor quality of sound from a laptop. The M17 has a "subwoofer" on the bottom that's smaller than the tweeter in a cheap set of desktop speakers.

A true woofer is basically an air pump and the frequencies and SPL 9sound pressure level) it can produce is directly related to it's surface area multiplied by it's throw (distance traveled).

Due to the size and compactness of a laptop one really can't expect much.

To achieve any kind of aural integrity, you need external speakers or headphones.

There is one technology that I hope to see used in the future called ribbon technology. Companies such as Sunfire use a specially designed ribbin membrane to reproduce sound.

You know I would just refrain from buying an M15x, they really need to toss that out of their lineup, it makes them look bad =/

Best speakers I've heard on a laptop still go to the HDX 9000 (20.1"). Amazing sound.

Outside of that, I just expect laptop sound to suck and always keep a pair of headphones at the ready. It's a win/win for myself and the fam while I game in the recliner.
