Check your Nvidia control panel by right clicking desktop > Nvidia control panel > and check either System information or Set up multiple displays. It should list your 9800m gt.

I don't think it's dead, I think the driver might be incompatible with the m15x model notebook itself. I've heard some m15x owners not being able to use the 185.5 drivers off the nvidia website because they are unauthorized drivers.

Someone had a similar problem where a message said it can't find any compatible hardware. They said they changed the boot sequence to allow an unauthorized driver to be installed (im guessing via usb flash drive)?

Can you go to it from the start menu > control panel > nvidia control panel

Also (while still in control panel window) if the nvidia icon is missing in there, click on Device Manager, and expand the Display Adapters icon.

The Nvidia icon is still missing in there. And the Device Manager only detected 1 display card which is Mobile Intel 965.

Did you buy this brand new from Alienware? If you did, i'm guessing the GPU is not attached, dead, or not there.

Have you been updating Nvidia drivers everytime they release new ones? Maybe you should do a clean install and use the original drivers found on Alienware's website.

.....i second what he said ... Usually a card doesn't die as soon as you update your Driver usually the driver messes up when it installs

Do you think being in stealth mode/using integrated gfx card is blocking the system from detecting the descrete gfx card?

Press Fn+F7, restart, Vala Nvidia GPU. Make sure OSD utility is installed.

If you used the right mouse button to start in integrated card: press Fn+F7 then turn off the computer, remove all power by removing the battery in the back and removing the power plug (check smart bay for additional battery), hold the alien head power button for 15 seconds, put power stuff back in and start up computer.
