I have windows 7 professional x64 installed on my M15x, is there a way to disable wireless upon startup? I use a wired LAN connection almost all times, so don't want to keep disabling pressing the wireless button each time.

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure I follow... so you dont want it to auto-connect each time? If thats the case,

    1. open the Networking & Sharing Center Control Panel
    2. manage wireless connections
    3. right click on the connection you want to change and select properties
    4. uncheck the box which states "Connect automatically when this connection is in range"

not exactly, I meant that I didnt want the wireless feature to turn on everytime I boot into windows.

You press the wireless button on your laptop to turn it on and press it again to turn it off. Is there a way to always have the wireless function off?

Got it... understand now. I take it you already checked the bios options, right? The only other way I can think of is to use device manager and just disable the device.

I believe right-click and disable radio in the "reddish radio tower" icon in the system tray will do the trick.

ahh.. yea I have tried disabling bluetooth "reddish radio tower" but its WIFI I want to disable upon starting windows. I always have to press the wifi button on my M15x to disable WIFI, but it would be much simpler if it booted up disabled.

I cant remember any bios options for wireless, but i'll check again.

    Hey,

    Have you tried the following:

    * Go on start
    * Right click on Network -> Properties
    * On that windows, press on Manage Network Connections (I dont know the exact english name but its on the left)
    * Right click on the wireless connection -> disable.

It will stay disabled until you enable it again. Hope this helps

I dont know if M15x and M17x have different Wireless programs from each other or not but the "red radio tower" Im talking about is for wireless, NOT bluetooth. I have just tested and it works. No more wireless automatically connects on startup. Disable the radio and wireless gone once and for all.

And actually the "red radio tower" is called Broadcom Wireless Utility. Its installed when you install WLAN driver from Dell.

    Here is the screenshot mate:

That Broadcom program is way more useful than the windows network and sharing centre. I currently don't have a startup icon for that, I'll see whether I do have one through control panel. Get back to you soon.

    Thanks.

lol you may want to enable it from Run -> msconfig if you have it installed.

Or else you can download WLAN driver from Dell to reinstall your wireless driver.

I never intend to have it there. It's always there after I install driver.

But I don't know if M15x and M17x have different drivers or not.
