    Ave,

    If I got the M15x now with 4GB DDR3 Memory ... is it possible for me to order more memory (like 2GB) and add it later myself to make it 6GB DDR3? Or whatever I order now; I'm stuck with it??

    Same question about the Hard Drive. Is 500GB the max you can get? Can you replace it later with 640GB or 1TB?

    Thanks!!

    For the memory: yes, but you would have to buy 2x3GB sticks to replace the 2x2GB sticks.

    For the HDD: 500 GB is the largest currently manufactured. You can upgrade it to higher capacities when they are available.

    That's not an issue; When I'm ready to upgrade, I wouldnt mind 'replacing' over 'adding'.

    Is this something that I can do myself? Like without sending it back to Alienware? Is there like somewhere at the bottom of the notebook that I can open a compartment to replace the memory?
    Would it be possible to upgrade to even higher memory, say for example, 2 X 4GB sticks to make 8GB DDR3?

    But if a 1TB or 640GB come available, would it be possible to purchase the new hard drive & replace the old hard drive myself at home?

    Thanks!!! :)

    I have never seen a 3gb stick of ram.

    To get 6gb I think you need one 2gb stick and a 4gb stick.

    Why not go for 8gb later.

    8GB should work for you, but to be sure, please tell me your chipset?

    Yea, I think it's possible to get 8G DDR3 in 64BIT OS.
    It's not easy to upgrade all by yourself if you are not experienced.

    Well, as long as it's something that can be done on your own by opening up the notebook at the bottom; but not needing the 'dissemble' the whole thing - then I should be able to do it. I'm alright with hardware modifications to a desktop PC; just haven't played around too much with a notebook before.

    @moral hazard: When I upgrade; I'm sure I'll be going with 2 X 4GB to get 8GB DDR3.

    Yep, upgrading the RAM in a AW notebook is always straightforward, just pop off the bottom and replace your sticks.
