I was just playing around with some of the specs of the M15x on Dell's site, and I noticed that if you select the 920XM it says that you have to purchase the 9-cell battery.

Is the 9-cell required for this proc to run correctly? I only ask because I was planning to buy the computer with a 6-cell, but someday I might upgrade the proc myself.

I just don't like extended batteries, they add ugliness and heft to laptops :p I don't really need too much battery life anyway, as I mostly use my laptops as traveling desktops :) Battery life is nice, but I'd rather have a sleeker laptop without the bulge that extended batteries add.

I would say so. Cause the 920XM takes more power then the 820 and 720 so yeah it probably does require the 9-cell.

you don't have to, but dell requires that just to be on the safe side because the 920xm uses more power and the battery is not going to last the same like with the 720qm :)

The 720/820 are 45 watt while the 920 is 55 watt.

But, more than likely it is their tiered sales tactic. To get upgrade A you must also purchase upgrade B and ect.

Yeah, I was hoping it was just a sales tactic.

it adds another inch to the bottom of the laptop, but its barely noticeable. also helps with cooling since it lift the back off the table and a better angle for typing.
