I've still got the factory drivers on mine...they're not bad, not great though. Which are you guys using? If you're using different ones, do you see improvements? Just wondering what the concensus is on this issue.

from what I understand, is that other drivers are downclocking the GPU and also not good for the alienware in general. I could be wrong on this but I have heard that we have to just wait for the new drivers specifically from AW (which sucks).

dave is right, you can't install any other drivers than the stock right now without suffering a huge performance decrease. Using any other driver than stock literally halves the performance on the 8800M-GTX from what I am reading in the Sager forum.

ahhh. i'd have to believe driver update from alienware is probably about #871 on their priority list--it'll be finished sometime in 2012--keep your fingers crossed lol.

    thanks anyway guys.

Chaz get your review out already!.... then again take your time.. i dont wana waste all my money..

the thing i find most suprizing is that the general alien ware user does not complain about this issue when any other brand it would result in a riot... i guess alien wares collage boy market aint so fussy.

    :(

What do you mean the general Alienware user? There are plenty of complaints here. Not everyone will go to a forum, and this is not the only forum.

Trust me I have spoken to AW on teh driver situation as much as I can. It has gotten the smae old response from them. No ETA on that. Hopefully we can figure what is teh diference with the 8800m GTX. I am pretty confident it is something in the INF that is disabling the full speeds of teh cards on both the AW and the sagers.

I would really like to give the 174.31's a try as many people are stating solid performance increases with this driver.

yes there is a thread somewhere, they were examining the inf files

also Chaz, are you telling me that the Sager (clevo) suffers the same problem with alternative drivers? (considering this is my alternative choice if AW dont sort out the supply problem like yesterday! )

Yes it appears that the driver issue is affecting notebooks with the 8800M-GTX. I have not checked on the Dell XPS M1730 but it is confirmed at this point that using any other driver than the stock ones with Sagers/Alienwares will result in drastically reduced performance.

I hope I get my m15x in soon (should be shipping today or so). Once I do, I'll be able to run some tests via drivers I can get via an... um... alternate source, shall we say? Given some time, I should be able to figure out what's going on. If nothing else, I might be able to tell people that it'll require driver versions that are not-yet-released. ;)

Sogarth we will take all the help we can get. And it was thread I started some time ago about the INF's. We have tried several configs and still no luck with running any of the newer driver sets.

And some games for me just won't play. Frontline is a no go. Even WOW has massive FPS drops. (narrowed that down to my CPU overheating).

Yes we'd be grateful for any information you could provide about driver updates for the 8800M-GTX. If you could find out why the performance is halved using any other driver right now that would be great too. It would be nice to get a 169 or 170 series driver on here, I think the 167 drivers are artificially limiting the 8800M-GTX's performance potential (especially in Crysis). They are decent drivers but not the newest. Sooner or later a video driver update will be needed.

I've got a M15x but with the 8700m GPU, has anyone heard of performance issues when switching drivers for that gpu or is it just the 8800m?

I also have a M15x with the 8700m GPU, has anyone heard of performance issues when switching drivers for that gpu. Or, does it use the same driver. My bios driver is v27. Some thread here has a v30 update. Is that only for the 8800m?
