    Hey guys,

I don't come here often but I thought I'd share my latest Alienware experience with you, and see if anyone has feedback, input or insight on it.

I just got my brand new Alienware M17. It's got Vista 64, a 2.26 core 2 duo, 3gb dual channel ddr3 @ 1066mhz, etc etc etc. Regardless of the specs, Here's my experience on Day 1 with Alienware's "Command Center..."

Out of the box... all is well. Every light works, every fan spins, every pixel is lit, and every program runs as it's supposed to. (They forgot to give me the adapter to my tv tuner... already having them ship that). Alienware's Command Center includes sections for TOUCH (for the touchpad), SENSE (for the facial recognition), and FUSION (for power management). I can configure them all without having to use any microsoft interfaces.

Ran Windows Updates. Downloaded and installed everything, then rebooted.

Went back into Command center - now FUSION fails at existence. Everything else in command center runs, but FUSION gives a cryptic "Arithmetic Operation Resulted in an Overflow" error message when I click it, then shuts down command center entirely.

Disabling all the startup items will fix it, but that shouldn't be necessary on a NEW computer.

45 minutes with Alienware's support got me the answer that they are "working on a patch" for this software version.

If anyone else is experiencing this, or has any ideas about it, or thinks they can fix it, or just wants to comment on it, now's your time to shine.

Honestly, I never even touch the AlienFusion application... I feel it's a waste of space, due to the fact that it's basically Windows Power Management dialogs, reskinned.

You can accomplish everything you want to do in AlienFusion by tinkering with the advanced power settings dialogs in vista... Not sure where to go in XP, since I never had an XP Laptop that actually didn't fail at power management.

    I never noticed it...

    ... oh look, it works.

Maybe because I don't have automatic updates on? or maybe it's because I'm running the 64-bit version of Vista?

    who knows.

or is it an M17 thing?

But you didn't get this specific error.
"Arithmetic Operation Resulted in an Overflow"

What you are talking about there is different than what is talked about here. :|

Yeah but on a lighter note, the update you got from Alienware could also be an update to reflect the errors that have shown up on the M17. Who knows! =)
