WXGA+ = lower res, better performance in games
WUXGA = best res for 17"

so just get the WUXGA screen.

1080p, mate, seeing how HD content is delivered 16:9 (the res being 1920x1080).

I went with 1440x900. WUXGA is too brutal @ 17" for me even with enlarged fonts and increasing font sizes in Firefox gets messy real quick. I like how native video resolution for many files are bigger naturally on the 1440x900, and future proofing for native resolution games is a plus. 720p is more than fine and is 16:9 also (1280x720), just at a lower resolution. At home I have a 1080p Sony in the living room and a 720p in the bedroom, and they look equally fine to me.

It isn't that I don't like high resolution screens. I use an Apple 30" and love the thing to pieces. But, it is 30" vs. 17".

But if you ever find yourself complaining about screen real estate, hate over lapping windows, desire 1080p conten or cringe when having to scroll above and beyond the call of duty, 1920x1200 is the way to go.

Definitely go for the WUXGA screen. Its large amount of screen real estate is well worth the extra money over WXGA+. You can increase the font size if you think it's too small. What size and resolution screen do you use now?

    I prefer the 16:10 screens and 1200P.

The funny thing is, even with the 16:9 screens, not all movies are shot in the 16:9 aspect ratio and some will STILL have bars on the top and bottom.

I don't mind having some bars with a 1200P screen watching a 1080P movie, but outside movies, I could use the extra vertical space and so can many others.

There is a strong trend of 16:9 notebooks but I hope that 16:10 won't be entirely replaced, I don't want to see 1920x1200 fully replaced by 1920x1080.

Increasing font size for surfing really distorts the pages in both IE and especially Firefox. Native Vista font size increase doesn't translate well to some applications and the built in font increase functions really misalign the pages. Best bet is to take a trip to Best Buy or Circuit City and use a notebook with both resolutions and see what works best for you.

    Totaly agree with electrosoft ^

Increasing DPI can cure the small fonts, but some programs become misalligned...I experience that a lot and I`m getting sick of it...
