Rediculously overpriced in the UK, Id probably go Clevo M980nu here as it can be had a fair bit cheaper. M17 /w 4850s were a comparative bargain, with new GPUs in 2-3 months would be a waste to spend extra on the AW with thier poor CS and unknown stance on card upgrade availability.

Hopefully there's an updated M17 model with no stuttering/overheating problems and everything else everyone wants.

ya, having 2 17" models is bad for alienware (even if it is good for consumers)

When the M17 was new, the Area 51 m17x was still around too, until it wasn't.

They have to keep parts available for the m17 no matter what. They can't replace every m17 that breaks under warranty for the replacement model. It is not cost effective. I wonder if they are just out of 4850s and dont plan on getting any for another month or so...

Well I just bought the new Sager NP9850, 2800 bucks. Its got a bigger screen, three HDD's and looks cooler in my opinion then the craptastic magnetic lid carrying M17x blah. The M17 I use now is awesome, but AW let me down with not giving the 4850's as upgrades to current M17 users.

My m17 is in sig, havent had any overheating probs.

as for switching to get an M17X if you already bought the M17, I wouldnt do it. They will take a lot of your $ back just to send it back. And for my M17, I still get higher 3dmark06 scores than some of the M17xs out there.

Its your choice tho, if you want to waste the money, go for it.

I wonder if this means there will be no official Windows 7 updates for this thing.

all they are doing is starting to stop selling the m17 because the m17x is the 850 di and the 840 di was the m17 so they are killing off that model to focus on the m17x ....

they will still have parts so quit freaking out we all knew it was going to die

it is bad for Alienware because they create competition between their own models

Would be smarter to just offer one system with ATI or Nvidia option (hopefully coming soon for M17x)

    the M17x gets a higher 3dmark06 score now ;)

And the difference in vantage is huge

And the M17x will game much better

Dont get me wrong, the M17 was nice and I loved mine, but I love my M17x even more

Well the performance edition always beats its younger sibling.

IMO the loss of the M17 means nothing. I'm sure more people were purchasing the M17x or M15x. They should get rid of both of the none x models and continue to sell performance laptops.

Shame the 4850s werent more widespread, they really did offer that performance stepping stone over the 3870s (being a little faster than 260 SLI) between the M17 and M17x, was sort of like an M17 GT! That said I can understand the business sense in dropping the model. RIP M17, just hurry and sort upgrades for existing owners. AW really need to reassess prices in the UK, they are pretty poor on the M17x, in comparison to others!
