Not sure if anyone has noticed it before, but AW has just started offering M17 (up to C2Q, 8GB RAM, xFire 3870s, etc...) with Ripley design for lid. It still has the rubberized soft finish and IMO looks much better than Skullcap and original glossy finish from Flextronix.
    Enjoy ;)

While the Ripley design looks great on the m17x; its chasis went with the design. Ripley with the M17 chasis design, not so great.

I agree, the M17 chassis seems more in tune with the Skullcap design. It's like mixing two mismatched pieces... just odd-looking to me. I definitely prefer my m17x w/Ripley to the m17 w/Ripley.

The M17 is a rebrand. Same chassis as several other laptops...Alienware just added their own lid and the rubbery finish.

I don't think it looks bad. It does look bad A$$ though!

except AW had exclusive rights to that version of the chassis...that's why you couldn't get a barebones m9750 at one of the notebook resellers...
