It would seem that one of my 3870 cards is taking on the full load of video in my machine even though they are in crossfire setup. GPU #2 in HWMonitor is registering heat up to 87 degrees F. when games or video or anything video intensive is being run, while GPU #1 stay at about 50-65 Degree F., so I opened GPUZ to see what it stated, while running non-stop video card stability test, and under sensors it stated that the #2 GPU is taking on 99% of the GPU Load while GPU #1 is at 0%. Cpu core temps are below 60 degrees F. I am currently running driver 8.632.1.2000 and CCC 9.7 though this has been happening before I upgrade to these!! Any Suggestions? Could GPU #1 not be functioning even though in device manager it states that it is "working properly"? Anyone else had this problem? Is this Normal? I'm stumped this may be a call to AW which I don't want to do!!![]()

set Catalyst AI to be enabled
It is the crossfire control essentially for these slave/master systems -
It has been set to Standard everything in CCC is at its defaults and is run by applications!! I think this is something different, maybe a problem with GPU #1!!

hmmmm
Pull the BIOS from both cards using GPU-Z and then open them using Radeon BIOS Editor (by techpowerup). In the name for the BIOS in RBE it should say slave/master. I would check that -
The top listed card in GPU-Z is your Secondary Graphics Card, the bottom listed card is your Primary Graphics Card.
Also select "Show Crossfire Status Icon" under Crossfire Settings for your Primary Card using the ATI task manager Icon to ensure that Xfire is actually being used in the game that you're playing. You will see an ATI Xfire icon in the upper right hand corner of your game when playing it if Crossfire is active. -
Also on the Graphics Card tab of GPU-Z it should show "ATI Crossfire" Enabled (2 GPUs) that will tell you if Crossfire is on or not.

^^What he said.... -
Ok so on my GPUZ screen it says 2 GPU's enabled (unsure on Vista)...I tried the Crossfire thingy and it appears on Fallout 3 in upper right hand corner so I turned it back off!! Still getting same results though...how did you get 9.9 to install and have it say 2 GPU's enabled without the vista language behind it like mine? I know I only have 9.7 but it has stated this ever since I have changed drivers from original!!

Follow these steps:

As far as your original issue, you will only see activity on the Secondary card when its actually being used. Keep GPU-Z running in the background while playing FO3 for a bit, then alt-tab back out. It will show 0% usage (cuz you're not using it after you alt-tabbed) but you should see red lines in the usage bar where you were using it a few seconds ago in the game. -
Try setting the Catalyst AI from 'Standard' to 'Advanced'. It can improve frame rates in games that don't usually fully support Crossfire by forcing alternate frame rendering.
Just my idea anyway. -

In the radeon bios editor, can you update the fan profile speeds to be way more aggressive? I have read mixed information on this subject. Some posts say that it will not work with our type of cards. Other posts say the bios update is low level and should work on any ATI card. Thanks!

AFAIK there is no way to adjust the fan speeds on the M17. Keep in mind that on the M17 laptop the fans are not controlled by the graphics card itself but the motherboard.

I just update the drivers, to the last version , 9.9 (8.650) and now it says Crossfire Enable.
Actually I didtn know how was the temps when I had the old drivers, I just updated. Now they are going pretty good.
Hope it helps, greetings
