I have been calling Alienware for 1 weeks now, just to buy extended warranty on my M17.

They always busy and put me on hold for more than 30 minutes until I gave up.
Today, I finally got through and it went to dell, after 1 hr of transferring me around, I got a rep to discuss the extended warranty pricing. After 30 minutes on the phone with him, I finally found out he was talking about my old broken XPS M1710. Well, now I can repair my M1710 for $210 which is not bad.

But I still can't find a way to contact alienware, the online chat never works. All the numbers forward to Dell which they can't do anything for M17.

Any alienware staff here can help me?

OMFG, I finally got to talk to the technical support of alienware (spent at least 6 hrs total to talk to the right person), and I was told I can't buy warranty on my less than 1 year old laptop. Because it's reaching the end of life of the product.

What the hell? So our investment in M17 are meant to last 1 year?
I asked him, but there are other people who bought 3 years warranty before, and they still get support. Then he said, "Yes, but we can not extend your warranty because it's near the end of life cycle."

Any staff here? Can anyone confirm this?
If this is true, who else is going to buy Alienware product when Alienware doesn't support it more than 1 year? I was told when I bought the system that I can extend the warranty before it runs out.

Luckily, I bought with my Credit Card that gives me 1 more year of warranty.

Shame on Alienware if this is true, seriously.

same problem. They transfered me between DELL and Alienware for 30 mins. They also kept asking me give them my service tag number. By the way..If my M17 has hardware issues in the future, who should I contact to replace parts?

Im planning on extending my warranty as well since the guys at AW replaced my keyboard (which had a button broken :p) in like 3mins on the phone. Well they sent me a new one you get what im saying, so since the service is that good i dont mind extending it.

But what you are saying (what they said to you that is) sounds wrong, let me elaborate as to why. The cheaper warranty you can get is one year, after close to one year they dont allow extensions, then, when can you actually extend a warranty ? After six~ months of having the product ? I pretty much doubt it and that will render the extend warranty option useless.

Will update on the matter as well in a few days since ill be calling to try and get mine extended.

I bet you there will be tons of angry customers soon, because I was one of the first batch who bought M17, and there will thousands of customers want to extend warranty in the next couple months. If what he told is true, the alienware's reputation will be soooooo famous, in terms that they will be known to stay away from.

You guys better call now, because it sometimes takes a week to talk to alienware rep instead of dell rep.

    The problem I suspect is:
    1. Dell took over Alienware, and M17 is not Dell's product line, it was Alienware's.
    2. Dell only take care of M15x and M17x.
    3. Alienware Product line is left dead, not going to spend any more money there, and not generate any more money, because it's closed down.
    4. Alienware fans and customers will be left alone, and helpless.

Seriously, are you going to buy alienware product anymore if this is true? They will lose more money by losing reputation, and the effect will appear very very fast these days too.

Oh my. Have you tried asking Dell if they would extend the warranty for you? Alienware is their subsidiary, after all, so it's worth a try.

I got a free warranty extension of three extra years (I had one originally and now it's four) after they had to exchange my mainboard. And I didn't even ask, the tech support guy just offered it to me after I complained a bit that such a new and expensive laptop is already broken. I guess I was lucky. But I've got an M17x, so it's a completely different case.

Now, that doesn't make sense.
I couldn't even buy one, and you get 3 more for free.

    Is kevin mills still here?

I purchased the three year extension when I bought the M17 in Feb 2009. I heard Dell purchased AW and was wondering if Dell kept the AW people who already knew how to service the AW computers. I may be giving myself the 'canary' but so far my M17 hasn't needed servicing. Anxious to hear how it ends up for you but hope it's good.

Its nothing special to service the m17 actually, disassembly is pretty straight forward if you are used to that kind of thing so it shouldnt really matter.

Servicing a laptop is just a process of reading the instruction booklet correctly, which any technician should able to do.

I am still angry about it. Can someone please call them to ask about it? If they allow you to extend, please get his extension or email, so I can buy it too.

Alienware confirmed again that you can't extend warranty on M17.
    http://support.alienware.com/Forum_Pages/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=578081

For those who didn't buy M17 with Premier credit card (which extend 1 more year for free), I suggest you to join this thread to voice your opinion.

I am sure there will be hundreds of user from this board alone will know they are getting screwed very soon when their warranty period is running out.

Today I called AW again and the AW tech support rep lied to me that 4850*2 cards are out of stock now and there will be more cards available in the future possibly. All I need to do is keep waiting...I told him don't try to fool me...
    Shame on AW...

I'm going to be pretty damn pissed if Alienware don't let me extend my warranty in 6 months' time. I'm more worried though that they'll stop servicing M17 owners altogether.

Lame. I've always been so patient with them, but it's hard to in moments like this. I called and spent an hour asking about an upgrade path for my M17 to 48xx series cards, to which I was told no.

It didn't even occur to me to ask about warranty, I didn't think this would happen. When I originally chose the 17 over the 17x, I did so because I was told the 17 was the laptop with a future. I guess I was misinformed.

Such a shame, another $4000k laptop soon to become a dinosaur after 1.5 years.

My M17x is the result of my M1730 video card frying and being replaced too many times under a 4 year full service warranty. Rather than throw video cards at it every few months for the next two and a half years, they decided to replace it with an M17x. Now the full service warranty for the M1730 covers this nice new M17x. But hopefully it will just work. As we all know, dealing with Dell's fully foreign support is like having your teeth slowly pulled out one by one while someone else pries open your chest with a rib spreader.

Oh, and I waited six weeks for the M17x to show up. The Dell technical support tweakers processed the order wrong the first time, which took the Dell customer support tweakers three and a half weeks to realize while I called every day asking where's my damned computer. Meanwhile I had this M1730 sitting on my desk collecting dust--Just an expensive paperweight.

fusion, that's a good deal. Fortunately for me this M17 was a replacement for a 9700 with failed LCD and no stock on the product. Suppose I shouldn't complain too loudly, but it's still unfortunate. I asked pretty clearly which platform would hold the upgrade path, I guess they didn't know.

I probably have less than 6months left on this warranty.. not sure what I'll do after that, although I've taken extreme care of this laptop inside and out, hopefully it will last on a good while.

I'd really like to pop in two 4850 cards, but from what I'm hearing around here they'll fight me on it.

What's off topic? You asked if people would want a full service warranty. I answered the poll with Yes, and then told the story of behind how I ended up with two and a half year's worth of it. It started with an M1730, and ended with an M17x. What's the confusion?

Ah, I see. I didn't know there was an M17 without the x. I'm not religious about these things. I just figured they were the same system.

The problem here is that M17 is not allowed to buy warranty for. M1730 and M17x are allowed to buy warranty.
