    Fellas,

What model are the M17 stock HDD's? Specifically the 160's if that matters. I'd like to order some parts. Thanks.

If you're looking to run a RAID, just get two that are the same capacity. My disks are not the same model, but both are 160GB, 7200RPM.

So just buy another sata 160 7200, eh? That's pretty easy. Then use the Vista64Ult disc and reinstall?

Is there a way to apply the image I'm going to do when I get the single 160 to the two drives in RAID? So as not to have to re-get drivers and such?

Well, no, you've got to go in and enable RAID in the BIOS. Then there's a manager that will merge the two disks so your OS sees one big one, I think it's right after the BIOS prompt.

As for imaging, Fusionsenses knows how to do that stuff.

It is totally possible to image your original image and save it somewhere external, then setup raid and restore the image to the raid drive.

    Problem:
Depends on the driver of the raid. If the driver for the raid is required to be boot differently, and if your restored windows is trying with normal driver to start windows for the first time after restored, then it might fail to even get into windows.
If the raid is hardware or setup FULLY in bios, and windows doesn't even know it's RAID or not, and only can see it as 1 drive, then the problem has lesser chance to occur.
