Ok, I try to play street fighter 4, it crashes when I try to change any setting. After weeks of research, I finally find out it's because Windows vista/7 use wrong refresh rate for the LCD, because there is no driver for the lcd, and windows just use generic one which is wrong.
Most games don't care about it, but street fighter 4 does.
So, what model of LCD does M17 come with (1440 x 900) and where can i find the driver if there is one?
If there is none, how can force refresh rate in windows 7 or vista without third party program?

Erm, i think you are wrong. Let me explain myself.
If it was an OS issue with the screen wouldnt all users be affected by the same problem ? Since this isnt the case then thats not the real issue. Did you try different drivers ? (which ones are you using at the moment ?) -
I think all dudes with m17 are having the same problem. I am using 9.7 ATI btw.
There are many threads in this forum talking about it. Many programs are created strictly try to solve this by force refresh rate. I tried 4 so far, none of them can force refresh rate in windows 7.
If i switch my primary monitor to my external one which has a correct driver for refresh rate of 59, 60, and 75, then the game works and also allow me to choose refresh rate inside the game.
If I modify the config file for the game to change it to 60, the game can load and play in full screen, but if i go back into the graphic setting of the game and change something it will crash just like before. Most likely due to detect display driver when change settings.
Many users have problem with battlefield as well, because of the refresh rate is not correct by windows. For god's sake, windows uses a generic driver.
So, you think I am still wrong?

Can you link me some of those many threads that m17 users have that problem ? Ive already finished the game so im sure it works with 1920x1200 screens. Of course my screen drivers are listed as generic too.
So assuming its an issue with the lower res screen im waiting the links of those so called many threads about this issue (from m17 users).
In other words, yes, i think the problem is somewhere else and not the monitors drivers
ps. Played it with 9.6 catalysts. -
is ur refresh rate at 61 as well?
My screen is 1440, not same as yours.
Maybe your screen support 61 and mine doesn't? Or windows think ur screen is 60 and set it at 60 for you?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=212328 -
Nop, my monitor is set at 60 and has an option for 59 as well (can change it either from windows options or ingame if the game allows it). And i said m17 users not users in general, big difference
Except if you believe your screen has a "special" problem which in that case you should call AW and replace it. -
Well, both windows vista and 7 thinks my lcd can only display 61 hz.
The game follows windows. So, only 61 hz.
If I manually modify the game config to fool it to 60, then it can go into full screen. -
Mmm thats really odd, cause if that was the case all the m17 users with the 720p version screen wouldnt be able to play the game just like you. And if you tried other drivers as well then its probably the screen it self.
Wonder if there are any m17 users online at the moment with the 1440x900 screen that can confirm having the same refresh rate as you.
Try run the game with the -freq 60 or -refresh 60 command and see if that helps the issue for now till we verify the exact problem. -
Not only m17 users too, other users have same problem and most of them seem to be laptop users too.
I imagine desktop users have more appropriate monitor driver than laptop users.
As I said, my external LCD can play no problem.
Btw, I can still play, just that I can't adjust AA, Fixed frame rate, and full screen in the game settings, it will just crash. Both in windows 7 and vista. -
Yea i know what you mean but theres no logic in having two notebooks with exactly the same hardware with only one having the problem. Except if its a faulty device. Did you try the commands ? Hopefully they will help you get rid of street fighter problem for now.
-
Tried both command in the shortcut, doesn't do anything. still crash in settings.
My version is steam, so the shortcut is steam shortcut.
Anyways, I can force it to go 60 as I said before, but i think it will ask windows for device info when i go into settings which changes back to 61.
Now, I don't even know what refresh rate is right for my LCD. Hopefully another m17 user with 1440 and street fighter 4 can testify. -
What settings can you select in windows ?

Just thought I'd help out there. -
I think someone mentioned (cant remember who, think it was z ?
) that AW uses three different types of lcd's. Not sure if its a case wheres one of those products has this issue or if its something software related (which i doubt if it happens with a clean installed system, win7 for eg).

I only have 61 hz in the settings in both vista and windows 7.
-
btw, why is it a problem when the refresh rate is at non 60 hz?
Why do some games are so strict on this, eg sf4?
I know sf4 are designed to have everything in 60 fps, but can't they some how fix this?
It works in windows mode too.

What are you trying to set it to? And why are you trying to change it?
Your refresh rate should be 60, although sometimes reported as 59. -

Its probably the way SF is coded (poorly apparently). Hopefully since a lot of people have the problem they will release a patch that will fix it at some point. Which i doubt many will play the game by then

Where are you trying to change it?
Why are you trying to change it, and WHAT are you trying to change it to?
I get that you're only seeing 61hz, but what is reporting it as such? Windows? SF4? Why are you trying to change it, and to what refresh rate are you trying to change it?
Here's my 1440X900 Screen on my M17. Are you seeing 61hz here?
-
I have the same screenshot as you, but with only 61 hz, and there is no way to change it.
Some games need 60 hz to run properly, and sf4 is one of them.
SF4 get 61 hz from Windows. -

Then you're looking at a Hardware Issue (although the Software is having a problem with it).
Some LCD panels are 61hz, some are 59, etc. And just b/c your M17 may have one panel doesn't mean that every M17 has the same, as it's not uncommon for panels to change mid-run. For example, look at mine, it's a 60hz panel and we have the same notebok.
It's not going to be a driver issue though, but you can try uninstalling the driver for it through the device manager. It should re-install itself. -
I did reinstall monitor driver, then i even hacked the monitor driver.
It seems to me it's really hardware issue, but people are able to force the refresh rate to 60 in xp, which I dont have. -
Have you tried powerstrip?
-
Yup, tried it.
Are you able to change to custom refresh rate with powerstrip in windows 7? -
I'm not even running win7, nor do I have an M17.. lol
I just thought it may work. Sorry it didn't.
M17 LCD EDID, help.
