What should you do for 3c difference ?

Or if you are talking about lowering the temps i guess a better thermal paste and a cooler should work.

Those temps look perfectly fine. The tech who applied the thermal paste just got lazy on yours and didn't do a good job. Thus the 3-5 degree difference. Well there are really many more possible scenarios, including environmental, but for the sake of these forums it's just the thermal paste.

    Open it up and re-apply.

    Here's my temps...

If I turn on my AC, its directed toward the intake of the laptop, I can go down another 5-10 degrees.

The thermal paste straight from Alienware is trash. It's some kind of blue rubbery crap. No, not the thermal pads, the ACTUAL paste. Good stuff. Apply AS5 if you've got some.

They really are a bit high.. at 90c these cards downclock themselves. Apply AS5, or elevate the laptop..another easy solution is to remove the baseplate and also remove the filters from the base of the system. You only have to remove 2, the one behind both GPUs close to the mousepad if you turn it upside down, and the one over the GPU fan. That may help a bit. Otherwise, new AS5 in addition to removing the 2 filters. The temps should NOT be that high on the M17. OC'd my temps get that high. VERY OC'd.

I think they downclock in the 100C+ range. Reasoning being that I had my bottom vents accidentally covered once, and was hitting high 90s. I've got AS5 applied to both GPUs and the CPU, removed the crappy 'air filters' from the cover, and have my laptop elevated. I occasionally hit the 90s, depending on the game. I sit in the mid-to-high 80s most of the time.

For a desktop yea but for this laptop i think its quite common since almost everyone gets temps like these.

I'm not sure what the AW bios does for fan control.. But the fans should keep you under 90s all day. You should be less than 85 all day all the way around. The fan control has a big impact on your temps.

I think the AW fans kick in at full speed around 80c or 85c.
Does removing the plate in the bottom make any noticeable difference ? :p

Well my last 7950gtx was at 60c load temp and still fried in less than a year :p

Id say that in the end it all comes down to luck :)

Don't run the OCX/M17 without a baseplate. You'll burn it up.

So theres really nothing else you can do about the m17's temps since im already using a cooler (well not a good one but a decent one :p).

Last solution i guess is the AS5. Although tbh, having high temps and not affecting my gaming performance is something that i really dont mind :p

Nah the mobo is fine, i replaced the card with another one just to make sure what was the problem.

Is this assuming that the rig is on the user's lap completely blocking the fans' intakes? I've run mine minus the baseplate, and I had no issues. Let it be known though that there is NO temperature difference to be gained from removing it. So don't bother.

    I've got a thread on M17 cooling/ventilation. It's called 'M17 ventilation' or something.

I'd suggest running it on your lap, with the vents blocked before running it without a baseplate. You should never do that. It doesn't have the capability to pull air across the sinks if you remove the baseplate. AS minor as that may seem, it is not a good idea.

Emails don't do anything. Because it's sent to the pool and nobody are required to clear the pool.
If you get anything from email, then you should go buy lottery.

My roswell rep told me: There are many other things more important than emails.
