Hi Guys -
im new here... im about to order a m17, however, i really want to get a quad core processor... what i would love to know is if, alienware is still got this stuutering problme or have they fixed this issue yet, from the facotry to your hands. intead of having ot mod it... (using a new fan, etc etc, or whatever they would have done to fix this issue)?
Has someone ordered a new m17 in the past month or so, and have you had these issues...?

The stuttering issue still exists, although it's gotten better. It's really no reason not to order an M17.

the stutter problem can easily be fixed by you.
the m17 is a great machine either way -

Hey Moo, link to the final and best fix for that stutter, if you don't mind. Thanks.

I really need to tinker with my m17 do this mod and overclock the gpus but I'm so lazy. Now when my voodoo/hp firebird gets here I have tinkering to do
Get the m17 its a great machine for the money, great period -
My new M17 OCCASIONALLY stutters for a few seconds. Only twice now I've had to restart it because of it. And I've found a temporary solution.
When it stutters on my system, the processor is often going nuts. Whenever I switch it down to power saver though, it stops, because of the fact that it limits how hard the CPU can work to 50% I think. I can then just switch it straight back up to High Performance after a minute and it's fine. And if you're doing low performance tasks anyway or old games, then it works fine on power saver.
Mine has only ever stuttered after having it on for hours on end. The last time it stuttered was when it had been on for nearly 24 hours. (I left it on overnight downloading something, lol)
So yes, the stuttering issue IS still there, but it's only very minor now and it's not bad enough a reason to not get the laptop. Mine is a wonderful machine and I'd highly recommend it. -
Sounds a bit like overheating, as always
Greetings
Julian
PS: just searching for "Projekt Freez" -
jules heres link to project freeze http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=381296

Changing the power profile to High Performance helps resolve the majority of the stuttering as well.

-
i use high performance and no stuttering
-
project freeze will tell you how to fix it for good

thanks moo and everyone
ive decided to just go with a dual core for the m17... but cant choose either the x9100 or the t9600... is there a "real" big diference between the two in performance wise? I dont want to be overclocking, a just incase senerio
thanks
ps.. i want a m17x, but the fingerprint scanner sells me on the m17 -
the fingerprint scanner is not that helpful lol neither is aliensense. i use neither because sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.
either way, its faster to just type in your pw -
Dude...you're taking an M17 over the M17x for the fingerprint scanner? Wow. You're nuts.
It's a nice, useful feature, especially to prevent people seeing your password (lol) but it's definetely not one of the selling points of the machine. -
the design of m17x, new
is "not so good" to say the least -
Eh, to each his own.
-
-
Eh, still - I kinda understand, as I went with the Ripley case on my M17 because I kind of liked the more subtle look. So I guess I get why someone would dislike the new look for the M17x - it's pretty flashy!
-
not on alienware forum
but on the whole NBR
let see who's minority -
just on design nothing else i think i prefer the m17 subtle yet manly look
