Mr. Moo got 3.18 before BSOD on M17x I believe,
Think I could get 3.0Ghz w/ just bios oc?
Thanks guys![]()

Im running 3.0ghz all day long with 1333FSB and 1333 RAM (my ram is only 1066).
-
I assume I can get the same results w/ the M17? Maybe I'll hold out on the QX9300 until I feel I need it..
3.0Ghz C2D is definitely respectable, wonder if it'll be enough to max out prototype w/ the 4850's? I know GTA IV is out of the question -
I cant speak for the M17 honestly but either way you should be able to get a decent overclock out of it till you get something better.
-
Yeah, thought so
also, this is the correct ram for the M17 right?

or is crucial a better brand?

the ram that comes with it is fine .... i hit 2.28 and that was the highest anyone has gotten (i have the world record )
-
I was just curious as to whether the mushkin brand was better than crucial or the other way around -
either brand is good

FYI, the M17 doesn't support overclocking by default. You have to use SetFSB for overclocking, as there are no settings in the BIOS to adjust FSB speed or CPU multipliers this as there is on the M17x.
-
btw I when I hear people saying "ocz bios" and "zfactor bios" are they talking about the same thing?
Thanks -
Not a huge oc, lets say taking the p8600 (2.4Ghz stock) to around 2.8 with Set FSB
Some questions I've been wondering about:
- Is it safe for long term use as long as temps are low?
- Are temps the only thing to watch out for oc'ing with SetFSB?
- Can I ruin the components by oc'ing w/ SetFSB even if temps are ok?
Thanks!

Wow Maximus you now have 4 threads on the front page alone
you should really take alot of these questions to the M17 owners lounge as youll get the same answers there .
As for SETFSB overclocking its perfectly safe and the worst that really can happen is your machine will bluescreen or lockup and you will have to start over. Only thing i never liked about SETFSB was you have to enable it and set it everytime you boot your PC vs it being on all the time . Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the answer, that's what I was hoping to hear -
Im only being honest about all the threads cause at some point someone will jump on you about it , i was just saving you the trouble
no offense cause it wasnt meant to be that way .
-
Zfactor modded the OCZ bios for more voltage and better stability for overclocking
it voids it but if you flash it back you will have your warranty and overclocking does not void your warranty as long as no damage is done -
yea alot of new members have been doing it and not searching but
your system willl be fine i used set FSB 100's of times all your computer will do is restart and you will be back to normal -
-
i mereged the two threads from max as they were the same topic of OCing.
-
Would I be able to oc the p8600 w/ the .28 zfactor bios? or does it only allow oc'ing w/ extreme chips?
-
only overclocking with extreme chips
setfsb is the only way to do it -
LAST thing, I know I'm driving you all nuts
I read somewhere on NBR I don't remember what thread, that x9500 core 2 duo is coming out in the future? I googled it but couldn't find any info
Anyone know anything about this? -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
As it stands now, x9100 (44w) = T9900 (35w) sans multipliers, but if you use setfsb, you can save a smidge on the wattage requirements.
M17 Question: How far can you overclock P8600?
