Hi,
I have just benchmarked the HD (2x500GB samsung drives configured raid 0) using HD Tune Pro 3.5. I am running a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (Retail)
79.8MB/s Read
Access time 47.9ms !!!!
Burst rate 81.3MB/s
That's rubbish. I thought it was a vista problem, but the HDDs are sluggish in Win7 too.
Has anyone got a simillar problem or any thoughts on how I can improve this performance?

Are you talking about the Alienware M17 or M17x?
-
M17
in fact looks that I have the same machine as you. Q9300 2.5GHz and same Gfx card -
Which Samsung drives are they?
-
HM500LI
I've got 2 in a raid 0 stripe. -
I believe these are 5400RPM, 8meg Cache HD's.
Average read should be around 58MB/s - so your doing just a bit better.
If you require more speed - you should look at the Samsung Momentus 7200.3RPM's with 16meg Cache. -
you are correct.
but what about the 50ms access time, does that seem normal to you? -
Yes - if you requrire a bit more reference in regards to your HD's - I suggest going here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2.5-hard-drive-charts/Average-Read-Transfer-Performance,675.html
You can see your HD's capabilities. -
yeah on there it says Random access time avg 19ms.
Thanks for your input dude.
M17 Slow HDD (hard drive)!
