Hello
tried to find out there but so far no luck
I download audio driver for my m17 on alienware site , intalled it and now the sound is only played from the sub , nothing from the left and right speaker anymore
I looked everywhere but couldn't find the place to set the speaker so they work properly ...
Any clue ?
Thx

yes this is a long running problem with mine too
here is my work around
1) remove all drivers
2) install latest drivers from AW
3) reboot
4) go to device manager
5) right click on realteak driver only
6) uninstall, and remove software
7) reboot and then mine works until it screws up again
mine seems to screw up if i boot with a usb headset plugged in -
did it work?

it's your soun driver. use alienware or r222. anything over that, will only use your sub
-
I have to use that workflow when it does screw up to get it working again -
you need to select the device properties of you sound devices and change your default audio device.
-
doesnt matter which device you select sound only from sub, unless you go through that driver rigormole

that's weird. i suggest uninstalling your sound use ccleaner and clean your registry and install r222 again.

The problem seems to stem from if you boot with a usb headset attached or usb speakers, then it seems to screw up the vista sound drivers and they need to be reset -

well i don't have usb headphones but i know for my hp. when i installed the sound driver with the headphone plugged, it never installed right. i had to reinstall with it plugged out. i think it's a software conflict to be honest.
install your audio and then your headset. then install your audio and then your headset. if that doesn't work then do it vice versa.
if you don't have the headset driver then that's your problem, if you do then that can be your problem also. but i am 80 percent sure it's a software/hardware conflict with your device.
to disprove my theory does it do it with a regular headset or you haven't tried it yet. -
actually i dont have one
it seems to work 90% of the time unless i forget to remove the usb headset when rebooting
i know its a driver conflict in vista, interestingly running windows 7 there are no problems -

lol why didn't you say that then. lol.
i'm using vista right now and i'm sooo crappy compared to windows 7 but i heard that nvidia doesn't have a working driver for 7. ( -

there's alot of software conflicts that exist
nod32 and outpost don't agree at all. i have freezes, lock ups, all of no responding. i have to boot into safe mode to remove outpost that's how bad it was. i couldn't even get to control panel. -
but the bee all end all for OP is follow those steps to get speakers working again
