Hey everyone, I'm deciding on whether or not I should get the m17. I seem to like everything about it, but the weight is sort of a big con for me. I'll planning on carrying it around with me, so I was wondering if the weight is an issue for those of you who have it?

The M17 is about as big and heavy as desktop replacements get. So unless you're 6'4 and 230, I wouldn't consider it the best choice in laptop mobility.

It's better to think of these machines as portable desk tops.

    haha

Although dimension wise it is as big as a Dell M170/M1710, it's definitely heavier, maybe around 10 lbs. But right now, it's the lightest and thinnest gaming notebook with two GPUs on the market.

    Smaller than:
    Toshiba Qosmio X305
    ASUS W90

the laptop is fine to carry around, it's pretty light it not like carying a cement block. The weight is fine and if you put it in a back pack its super light.

    im 6'6 and 220 .... its like a netbook to me :D
my fiance though hates it ..... to big (she got a 12.1 inch )

I think you should consider 2 "issues":

First, it is not a little and thin laptop. But that is not a big issue... I mean if you want to use it for gaming.

Second, if you are wondering about the M17 weight then you should see (and carry) the power brick: it is like 10 times my Lenovo's T400. If you want mobility you should consider carrying not only the system but also the huge power brick.

My advice is: buy a backpack with enough room for the M17 and its power brick and that will solve any "weight " issue.

    Nearly twice as heavy as:

    17-inch MacBook Pro
    Height:2.50 cm (0.98 inch)
    Width:39.3 cm (15.47 inches)
    Depth:26.7 cm (10.51 inches)
    Weight:2.99 kg (6.6 pounds)
A good backpack may mitigate the weight issue, but it will not "solve" it. It's still heavy!

If you want a good compromise of weight and power, the GT725 is the sweet spot. less than 1lb heavier than the MBP 17" with the ability to run a Quad Core and a 4850 which stops the 9600M GT into the ground.

The 1722 chassis (used for the GX720 and GT725) is very light and durable.

agreed. I'm amazed that the GT725 is based on this (1722). It's very light for a 17 inch gaming notebook. The Dell Precison M6400 is also another good option as well in terms of size/weight and power, though a bit pricier.

Only problem I had with the M6400 were the corners which were too sharp. They use to go Rambo on my wrists and forearms.
