    Hey Guys,

    Please help:

I just got my M17 yesterday, I boot up the system and work fine.
Then I go-on and try to install my upgrade RAMs buy from Newegg.
The system cannot boot up after the new G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) installed.
It did not boot up but sounds like in Sleep mode, no HD activity. All is Black screen, Not even see the BIos Key line.
So I change back to the Org RAM, it runs fine again.

QS: Do I have to reflash or update teh BIOS or any driver before add new RAM ? Or it is just the MoBo don't like the Brand of RAM that I have...

Any one have installed any new 4 GB Ram can show me the steps and tell me what Brand is proved to be no issue to add?

I feel like I just waste a $100 for this upgrade...

    Please help.

The RAM I have is :
    G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-4GBSQ - Retail
    Cas Latency: 7
    Timing: 7-7-7-20
    Voltage: 1.5V
    ECC: No
    Buffered/Registered: Unbuffered
    Model #: F3-8500CL7D-4GBSQ
    Item #: N82E16820231213

Try booting with each of the sticks, one at a time, to see if it's just one that may be bad.

    Thank Kevin.
    I afraid I did.

Could it be the RAm Timing causing teh problem ? Or just teh RAM Brand the Mobo don;t like....

Did you need to update anything before add your RAM ?

    ThX so much

it might just be bad memory modules. call newegg, get an RMA number, ship them back, and get some new ones.

I believe I did push them in deep enough, I will sure try one more time.

I'll see if I can get them exchange.

But could it be the Brand issue ? Any one using this the G.SKILL 4GB and have this issue ??

    Thanks guys !!

you should hear an audible click when they're in all the way.

if the RAM really is bad, just send it back and get a new kit under warranty. no problem. newegg has a great RMA service.

It's not going to be a brand, bios, or mobo issue, so no need to wonder about that.

It was fixed with the release of Vista's sp1 32bit though it is now able to report the full 4 GB I think it still only take advantage of a portion of that.

Right each programm can only use max 2gb Ram and the 4GB shown are only what you put in^^ not what can be used :(

This is why I would never use Vista 32 bit ... I am using 64bit, wich is ment to be more stable, since the first day of the open Beta  as I do with W7 64bit Beta

    YOU ARE SO RIGHT!

    Greetings
    Julian

yes, it could be the timings. place back in the original memory sticks, use CPU-Z to check the timings, and get new memory with the same timing and voltage.
