M17 and FN+F12.

Couldn't find anything on this with the search, or Google. Comes up with a little tachometer icon and asks about CPU overclocking.

Anyone know what this is?

Its for overclocking the extreme CPU. the x9100 you can choose 3.33 and the qx9300 will be 2.8.

It will be released soon in a new bios!

It doesn't do anything for me. I am running the Whitebook BIOS though. I clocked back down to 3.06, then ran the utility. It reboots automatically when you select 'Yes'. When I got back to my desktop after the reboot, I was still at 3.06.

Why would that option be there if AW didn't have some plan for letting the M17 be OC'd?

@ DHC: Maybe you have to have an Extreme processor installed to access the shortcut? Also, is your on screen display (OSD) up to date?

 

I have the bios on mine, (I have close friends there) it works great and should be released soon. No I do not have a copy they did it for me at the factory.

 

So you're saying you have a special BIOS on your M17 that allows for Extreme CPU overclocking? When is it slated to release?

 

I do! All I was told was that release date is soon. The guys are working hard on that and several other new apps.

I work for one of there suppliers and I begged them to let me test it, so far I have had no problems at all.

I am sorry I can not give you a release date but it is coming!

 

I wasn't calling you out man, don't get me wrong. I can't find anything on this BIOS anywhere.

 

I know, I did not take it the wrong way. I will call Monday and see if I can get a release date?

 

If you want to, that would be cool. Not being able to OC the M17 is one of it's major crutches. To be able to OC it without killing the warranty would be nice. Thanks for the info, by the way. +rep.

 

Thanks Turbo! The guys are actually excited about bringing it out. They told me I was the only person outside of Alienware to have a legit overclockable laptop

I told them I was going to ebay it soon as I got home LOL.

 

That would be really cool for those with the extreme chips!

Blade - is your ram running at 1333 on your laptop or is it clocked
down to 1066?

 

I am almost positive it downclocks it to 1066. Someone on here might know that answer better than me?

Here is a pic of the bios. The fn+f12 that comes up is very small and just says would you like to overclock? y/n If yes then system needs to reboot.

So for those that's been holding off on buying the M17 due to non-overclock can now make there purchase

Man I wish I had known that I would have got an X-proc. My M17 is in phase 5 right now. Oh well upgrades in the future.

No, only extreme cpu's will be overclockable.
