Hi,
I just changed out my P8400 2.26GHz (3MB Cache 1066MHz FSB) for a QX9300. The laptop does not seem to have any real problems with the processor and everything seems alright.
However I am wondering why my soundcard started to act up a bit. ( laptop doesn't ever go into hybernation/sleepmode or anything like that )
When I exchanged the processor I also noticed a patch of brown ( I think its cooling gunk ) on a chip not to far from the processor. When I applied new cooling paste to the processor should I have put some on the little chip next to it ( the one where the brown stuff was on )?
Also I was wondering about temps from other XQ9300 users. My cores are currently running a bit hot ( I think @ 50C/122-124F ) I dont know if I should redo me coolingpaste handy work or not.

use hwmoniter and momniter your temps for about a hours. also play some games for a little so we can compare your temps to others.

Ok I had Eve online (Premium client) crank up my temps for a bit.

i'm seriously hoping you didn't get a QX9300 and CF 3870's for Eve Online...

Ok so thats ok .. but what about the other cooling paste that was on the other chip. Would I need to replace that?
I normaly build desktops so I dont have any real know how laptops and how to pull em apart without totaly screwing up the computer
I kinda got the laptop to heat up my room and amuse me at the same time on colder days
(I know I could have done that cheaper with an Xbox 360 but this is nicer) -

you mean the northbridge? that should be a pad not paste. if so do not replace it with paste the paste is not thick enough and will not make proper contact the pad may be reused again

Hmm it seemd to be brown cooling past kinda stuff..
I also orderd some new thermal paste. Gonna try it out and see if its gonna make my CPU a little cooler then the standard paste. -
can you post a pic?

The new temps with the diamond cooling paste. Core 4 seems to be @ same temp though the others have decreased a bit. Termal paste was spreak as per manufacturers orders ( though those are for a desktop not a laptop ).
What still gets me is the soundcard. It still stutters a bit. Gonna try the R2.17 drivers from realtek..

Hmm still botherd by the soundcard. Even seems to freeze the system for about a second. Very weird behaviour anyone else have something like that?
M17 changed out the CPU.
