COD4, Assassins Creed, etc all run 94C or less

TRINE does this to my pc?

Are you serious? I'm so pissed right now, I'm going to call AW and tell them this is unacceptable. No laptop out of the factory should ever get this hot no matter what game you play, ESPECIALLY after replacing stock paste w/ as5 AND using a Cryo LX on full blast!

    Anger..mounting...

I'm going to tell them to either replace my pc for m17x (even though they're fugly which is why i didn't buy one in the first place.. at least they don't overheat dammit) or provide me with a solution that I'm happy with. I don't want a broken computer in less than 1 years time, which is what WILL happen if these are the normal temps that the gpu operates at.

    I could kill something.

in my desperation I took off the dust pads on the m17, really didn't want to though because I figured they were put there for a reason.. but it dropped the max temp after playing for an hour to 98C so I suppose it was really really blocking the airflow

    :/

    stupid AW

even 98 is still through the roof, my qx9300 at 3.2hz under load hit 90 once my as5 had bedded in

The M17 really isnt designed for this punishment.

Will be interested to know what Aw's response will be regarding a swap for the m17x tho :p

    Wow, tested some more games,

Overlord 2 which used to hit 108, is now hitting 84 max after about 25 minutes

it seems those dust pads were realllly blocking the airflow, that's a 24C difference...

    I'm feeling a little better now :)

I just hope I didn't damage my cards when I played Trine at 114C for an hour...

    that'd suck.

Yeah Yeah Moo you're always right :p

I didn't think the difference would be so drastic though, so I figured it would be better just to leave them on since they block dust from getting in, but 24C difference is wayyyy to big of an improvement to sacrifice for a few dust particles, I'll just clean it once every 2 or 3 months no biggie

thanks Moo, I should have listened to you in the first place ;)

tested all my other games, nothing goes past 84C :) except for crysis and trine, trine now goes to 98C and crysis is at 88C

Sounds like the same temps i had with Trine as well :p

Trine and Demigod so far was the two games that actually pushed the temps really high for me.

I think I'm slowly becoming convinced to pull my dust screen, as well - though I'm a little skittish, as we have a cat that sheds, so cat hair gets everywhere, and that can't be good for the laptop... :)

when in Trine, does it normally run above 60fps? If so try putting vsync as 'always on' in the catalyst control center. (with triple buffering of course) It will decrease the temps if you're always on 60fps or more anyway.

I'm gonna leave my dust cover on as my cards hit 85C max and the CPU hits 75C max when not OCed and it's real dusty out here.

You think that the cloth actually does anything for the dust ? :p Dust goes everywhere. Open your notebook after 1-2 months and see what i mean :p

Is there a guide on here to cleaning your M17? I remember the finer points, I think - stuff like don't let the fan spin freely if you use compressed air, and a few other tidbits - but I seem to remember a cleaning thread. I know, I know, off to the search function for me... :D
