Hey, I received my M17 from alienware about 2 or 3 weeks ago and first let me say I'm in love with the machine :D but recently I noticed a growing bulge above the touch media buttons where it looks like the plastic strip is coming apart from the base in the back. It can be pushed down flush again, but pops right back up after you let go.

I'm wondering if this is a common issue and if there is a simple fix. I don't want to send this system back for such a minor cosmetic issue.

Mine has it right in the middle near the HD activity light. It was bulging a little on the left too, but popping that in made it stay. I can't get it to pop in near the middle though, too much of a bulge.

Yeah Ive got it too! the only down-side to the machine IMHO and its not that visible.
Still nevertheless would not pass any of the quality control tests at any of the companies Ive worked for here in the UK. Would have never been sent out of the door!

FYI it's not supposed to be there, the surface is much more nicer without it.

Your one of the luck ones it seems.

my bulge is right where that rewind/fast-forward button is.

I think you thought we were talking about that scratch-proof plastic film that you get on there when you get the M17.....I wish I only meant that. Means I wouldnt have a big ugly bulge on my touch keys.
I am well within my rights to send it back for poor workmanship but it doesnt bother me that much.

    Hi Larven,

yeah it is weird I know....looks like a wire or cable has not been pushed down properly and the strip has just been placed down with no regard for quality.

I cant take a photo until my brother returns from holiday on Monday with the camera.
Just imagine on your photo where the rewind/fast-forward touch keys are it just bulges up in the middle of that strip. You can push down the bulge but it pops back up.

Actually looking at it now it seems that the strips dont fit and are a couple of mils too long. But they have been used anyway!

........ The LCD cable is there and it is not letting it sit perfectly flat I know because I took it apart and looked to see if I could fix it but there wasn't enough room

Moo how did you go about taking it off??

Is it screwed in from underneath or is there a trick to snap it off... and are there cables connected to it when it comes up?

To fix the M17 bluge is very easy. The panel is held down by three screws and can be then removed and have the cables adjusted.
Before i go into detail where the screw's are i would contact tech support and have them walk you through the remove so that you do not void your warrenty.
