hi all
lastnight i was running 3dmark 06 and my laptop scored 12218 which i knew was high so i run it agen and still scored in the 12000 mark.
so i ran cpuz and my clock speed 2.93ghz which was also displayed in 3dmark after i turned it off it went back to normal just a strange thing to happen shame it didnt stay like it
what do you think could of caused this
-
-
ha ha i got that processor
tell me exactly what you did coz i wanna do it.... -
this might be the result of the new OCable BIOS...
-
the lower one is dated 30 Jan.
the higher score is 20 Feb.
Unless he DLed the new BIOS, i cannot support that theory whizzo... -

I think that's a misread, I don't see how the clockspeed would have reached 2.93GHz on a chip that only runs at 2.26GHz. The P8400 has a locked multiplier of 8.5x so its frequency cannot be changed without altering the FSB speed (which isn't possible in the BIOS of the Whitebook).
The latest Core 2 Duo processors automatically overclock one core if the other core is not being used. But not both cores . . .
Please post a CPU-Z screenshot. -
but the score reflects the change in clock speed i havent tryed overclocking or changing the bios and i run 3dmark a few times but after i turn off it when back to normal i checked it with cpuz so it wasn't just 3dmark
sorry havent got cpuz screen shot but the proof is in the results i know 3dmark isnt always correct with clock speeds but no way could i score 12000
with out an overclock
its so strange im completly puzzled -
think you can replicate the effect?
-
i wish i have no idea what i had done the only thing i can think of was i was playing burnout for the first time
-
right. well i think it'll be fairly easy to check if burnout is related to this issue...
-
yeh i will have a go and see what happens do u think i could be a defective cpu
-
what's defective about it if it works better than advertised?
M17 p8400 overclocked its self
