Hey guys i currently have the M17 with dual 3870, 4 gig ram, and 2.26 cpu.
I am looking to upgrade but so far the only 2 i found in my price range are the 2.0ghz quad and the 2.8ghz dual core. I play alot of games and was wondering what would be my best bet.
Thanx for yur time and any info

Quads have some stuttering issues on M17 so my bet would be with the 2.8 one.

actualy it depend what type of games you play most games will take advantage of a c2d and cfx will take adventage of faster clock

how ever a quad might be a little more future proof since future game will take advantage of quad
and is better for heavy multitasking
but some people have a stutering issue with the m17 and a quad the q9000 i my self have a q9000 and don't stuter that much but the q9000 is the quad that has the less isue with the m17

thanx for the fast reply, i saw that stutering is caused by the northbridg getting too hot. I also saw that you can add heat sinks to help with the cooling. I play alot of fps (cod4, l4d2,crysis, counterstrike).

So you think I should be fine with just the 2.0 ghz quad? i currently only have one harddrive, and only 4 gig ram, my computer is never anywhere that gets hot. I am just wondering how performance would be in games. I know most games are not made for quad cores yet. Im stuck between the two and they are so close in price.

If i had the money to upgrade either of those 2 ,I would go for dual because quad doesn't seems stable for me like spiking sometimes, etc.

Ill probably go dual core, I wish I could find the core 2 duo extreme for a reasonable price, everything I find is 800+ for it.
