I have read most of the customer reviews and threads. Seems as if it is a crapshoot. I do not need that in a 2-4k laptop. My under 1k Dell has had no problmes whatsoever in two years of owenership. What say you ? Is their QC lousy or not?

They have a stuttering problem in Quad core M17s, which hasn't been solved yet, and I suspect that never will. If you are buying a dual core machine, go ahead.

And I am pretty sure, that their quality is "in control" from the Pareto school of QC theory, because almost every quad core users have been complaining about this problem.

    It is a design flaw.

The m17x r2 with the core i7's don't have any stuttering issues

not quite, I don't have that stuttering problem on my M17 Quad core machine. but I think duo core is safer cuz some people had trouble with quad core.

And my m17x core 2 duo 2.8 is having lagging issues as well. Do not go for a R1 system. Stay away from it. It is simply not worth the risk or money. As for the R2 system I am not sure.

M17's are fine so long as you avoid the Quad. My M17 w/ c2d (OC'd to 3.40ghz) and dual 4850's has been running strong without a single issue from day one, something I can't say about TWO m15x's(1st gen) that I had.

And as far as games go this will run anything I throw at it, BFBC2 maxed, crysis, Far Cry 2, L4D2, you get the picture...

Good Laptop and quality is excellent, my only reservation is you say 2-4k laptop, could you by chance mean the M17X and not the M17 ??? these are different systems.

I am hoping this is true 'cause I have been looking at an i7 quad core (kinda defeats the purpose of having a super heavy laptop without a quad) quite a bit lately.

same here core 2 quad no trouble on my m17 it is just a question of tweaking the power setting just fine

M17x-R1 however have a sturering isue du to the nvidia chipset so core 2 duo or core 2 quad don,t mather only luck is important

M17x-R2 with i7 have no hudge trouble reported yet

I have had no problems with My R2.
    Check my Sig for Specs.
I have had it since March 12th.

I had one lockup during a stress test but that is to be expected.
the only other issue i had was twice I unplugged the power supply during operation & it weirds out the battery. After you plug it back in it won't recharge unless you reset the powercycle to the Laptop (taking out the battery & pressing the power button for 30secs while unplugged.)

I have enjoyed it quite a bit. handles any games with ease. & I also use it for Video Post Production. Editing, Motion Gfx & some light 3D work.

I have enjoyed this purchase. It is easily the best computer I have ever purchased. Close to being the best product I have ever purchased. guess I'm just lucky judging by alot of the posts I've read.
